 Population explosion refers to
the rapid and dramatic rise in
world population that has
occurred over the last few
hundred years.
Some of the causes are:
 Values and beliefs.
 Medical consciousness.
 Ignorance of birth control methods.
 Poverty.
Negative Effects of Overpopulation
 Poverty.

 Depletion of Natural Resources.

 Degradation of Environment.
POVERTY  Condition where people's basic
needs for food, clothing, and
shelter are not being met.

Among the causes of poverty are the following:

Overpopulation.
Calamities.
Unemployment.
Graft and corruption.
GAMBLING
 It is
the activity or practice
of playing at a game of
chance for money or
other stakes.
The possible causes are:
 Recreation.
 Strong belief in “luck.”
 Get-rich-quick mentality.
 Lack of strong spiritual and moral values.
 Negative Effects of Gambling
1.Some people become impoverished because of
gambling.
2.They lose fortunes especially if luck is not on their side.
3.Excessive gambling at night causes deterioration in the
health of an individual.
4.Since gambling has no economic value, time spent in it is
useless.
ALCOHOLISM
 Alcoholism is an excessive drinking of liquor.
Among the possible causes are:
Recreation.
Social function.
Frustration.
Lack of spiritual and moral values.
Negative Effects of Alcoholism

TRAFFIC CONGESTION

 Traffic congestion is when vehicles travel at

slower speeds because there are more vehicles
than the road can handle.

BROWNOUTS
A brownout is an intentional or unintentional drop in
voltage in an electrical power supply system. Intentional
brownouts are used for load reduction in an emergency.

There are 2 main sources of brownouts: external (outside your home) and internal (inside
your home).
External causes of brownouts include:
• Power grid problems (too much demand and not enough electricity)
• Power failure at power plants
• Intentional “throttling” of electricity during peak demand
Internal causes of brownouts include:
• Too many electrical appliances on a single circuit
• Inadequate wiring for a large appliance (like an air conditioner, freezer or refrigerator)
• Bad wiring in the home

UNEMPLOYMENT
Unemployment occurs when a person who is
actively searching for employment is unable to find
work. Unemployment is often used as a measure of
the health of the economy. The most frequently
cited measure of unemployment is the
unemployment rate.

 IMPLICATION
Social problems are problems of the society that affect us
in different aspects of our lives. They are problems that
somehow we are the contributors. Our recreational
activity, livelihood or habit may not be as it is to others.
A pleasure to us might be a problem to others. The social
problems that we are encountering today would be the
social problems that our next generations might encounter,
as we repeatedly practicing the cause of it.
The continuous practice of undisciplined lifestyle and illegal
actions will lead us to these problems. We cannot change
things overnight, but if we start living the right way, we
may lessen the burden of these social problems.
