What is CAD?
• Abbreviation of CAD is computer-aided design.
• One of the important steps in garment manufacturing is pattern making.
• Paper patterns are made by the designers and subsequently digitized to a
computer.
• This pattern making software is called a CAD system.
• Nowadays the CAD system is a must have software in garment export
house, medium and large size garment business.
• Various CAD software are used in the garment industry for patternmaking,
digitizing, grading, and marker planning.
• CAD software solutions help apparel manufacturers and brands maximize
cutting room productivity, accuracy in pattern and gives the better fit.
• Several 2D patterns are prepared for a garment .
• Most CAD systems have advanced solutions like 3D virtual
prototyping/sampling.
1.Pattern Making 3.Pattern Grading
It is a bridge function between design and Pattern grading is the process of
production. A sketch can be turned into a garment turning base size or sample size
via a pattern which interprets the design in the patterns into additional sizes using a
form of the garment components. A pattern is flat size specification sheet
while the body is not. or grading increments.

2.Digitizing 4.Marker Making

MARKER MAKING
• Marker is a long thin paper which contains all necessary pattern pieces for different sizes for a particular
style of garments.
• It is planned in such a way that fabric wastage would be least.
• The width of a marker is kept according to the cut able width of the fabric
• The length of a marker normally depends on the number and sizes of pattern placed on a marker.
The length also depends on-

Production planning etc.
Image Processing for Digitizing and Grading
• The base of CAD
marker making is to
digitize the pattern.
• A digitizer is used to
trace all the pattern
pieces and process
the image.
• Now the images can
be graded in the
way we want.
• Thus, once a pattern piece is saved , it can
be reused again and again.
• It will also save time for the next order
• No need to handle pattern pieces.
Machine Learning for CAD
For he major aspects of Marker making, Machine Learning algorithms are used to make the
CAD software understand the following things:-

• Fabric width must be higher than the marker • One should easily see the full length & to

AI in CAD(Marker Making)

• To use the least amount of fabric to

produce a garment and make industry
profitable every time.
• To cut huge amount of fabric in short time.
• To calculate the consumption for a
particular style.
• To cut large amount of fabric using less
people.
• To cut the fabric with perfection according
to the measurement.
• To make a perfect production plan.
• The CAD software helps in achieving high productivity and improved quality. The designers involved
in clothing designing create numerous designs by using the CAD software.
• The CAD software alone cannot be used to automatically generate clothing patterns or designs for
a specific garment style ,although there is the scope of using AI in pattern generation.
• Several researches have been done to implement the AI that can help to develop basic clothing
patterns , nesting, markers & save fabric consumption automatically.

• For example, Inui had developed an AI integrated

CAD system (combination apparel CAD and GA)
that can be used to search apparel designs that the
system users prefer.
• The search process involves the man– machine
interaction cycles, where the user assesses the
examples produced by the systems.

MATCHING CHECKS AND STRIPES :-
Using AI , the CAD machine by recognizing the pattern can
make a marker plan to accurately match the checks and
stripes of pocket to front panel or yoke to back panel etc.

KEEPING TRACK OF SHADE VARIATION :-

A tree and branch-based model used to
map decisions and their possible
consequences, similar to a flow chart.
FINIDING PRE-MADE PATTERNS :-
The examination of data sets to discover
and mine patterns from that data that
can be of further use.
FOR ACCURATE GRADING :-
Manual Pattern grading have more chance of errors,
the Automatic CAD machines can grade them very
easily.
GENERATE DESGIN AUTOMATICALLY :-
Several attempts have been made by
researchers to integrate AI with CAD
systems to generate designs automatically.

Advising Pattern Trends :-

An AI based system can also analyze
the latest trending designs and
provide manufactures with some
desgines for there customers.

• AI enabled platform, similar to Defect
• The platform learns the weaving pattern, Identification, can be developed that has Pass/Fail
yarn properties, colours and tolerable (P/F)

• The system can then be tested for new batches to
automatically set AI tolerances, training the system
to determine which samples pass and fail.

textures, transparencies and more.
FULL-MOTION SIMULATION
• Animate the virtual fit model to visualize how a garment drapes in motion. Models can be made to run, dance, cycle, pose, and walk the runway or anything else you desire.
SMARTmark AUTOMATIC MARKER MAKING FOR COSTING & PRODUCTION MARKERS
• SMARTmark is the most advanced automatic marker making software. SMARTmark, an add-on module to TUKAcad, maximizes the placement of markers and utilizes every
possible piece of fabric, generating enormous savings.
• Using SMARTmark to acquire a styles true estimated fabric yield, based on actual ratio to be cut, will save anywhere from 3 to 15% in fabric cost per marker.
BLOCK FUSING OPERATIONS
Any marker that contains special Block Fuse blocks will be placed as desired. Select from the different options to customize the Block Fuse.
EDIT INTERNALS
Edit pieces without having to revert back to the style file. Add notches, delete notches, cut pieces with seam, add text, change shrinkage, etc. without having to make a new order.
STRIPE MATCHING
Fabrics that have stripes or plaid lines can be input directly on the marker screen. This saves time in placing pieces that have to be engineered to the strip lines

6. Etelestia: 3. Optitex 4. Gerber Accumark 10. GT CAD Software
• Use CAD tools to draft patterns from scratch or modify existing blocksthat come preloaded
in the software. Use commands and keyboard shortcuts for tools and functions to speed
up the drafting process.
• Automatically generate pattern cards, measurement charts, and piece lists in Excel that
travel with the pattern file.
• Build block libraries with "master grading." Changes made to base pattern are
automatically reflected in entire size range eliminating need to recalculate grade rules.
Easily insert size in between current sizes and the system will automatically divide the
grading in half.
The software combines sophisticated algorithms based on artificial intelligence together
with manual manipulations to help the operator get the optimum utilization of materials.
Users get a temporary working area to visualize and place pieces more efficiently.
