• Spatial data acquired by: • Road surface conditions
1) Field method were determined 2) Remote Sensing method • Since we can acquire 3) Combination of RS and GIS regularly the remote • Satellite imageries from sensing data (satellite Quickbird imagery of 2006 from National Population images), hence, monitoring Commission of Nigeria and assessment of road Ground truthing: locations conditions at any time is were checked and verified possible. Georeferencing: to be in the same coordinate system. • Data gathered- input in GIS • Remote sensing- for satellite image • GIS- digitized roads and overlaid on satellite imagery • Therefore, road can be monitored and maintenance can be planned. • Created database (name of road, type, condition, etc. • Therefore, satellite images can capture wider or more information about roads than actual field surveys and situations will be assisted. Recommendation
Recommendation for agencies in line
with road design and maintenance to use GIS and Remote Sensing was beneficial since collected spatial data and satellite images provides information showing damages in specified road.
