What is a Prediction?

 It is an educated guess as to what

will happen in the future.
(Wikipedia)
 It a statement about what will

happen or might happen in the

future. (Merriam Dictionary)
What does making prediction mean?

 Making a Prediction is a strategy in

which we look for clues in a picture
and combine it with information we
already know to be true, to predict
what will happen.

Clues/Evidence+ Prior Knowledge = Making a Prediction

 How to make predictions?
1. Use information that you already know.
2. Look for information (clues, symbols, or any
evidence) from the illustration, pictures or
motion pictures, diagrams.
3. Put the information together.
4. Formulate your prediction/s by using the
future tense. ( will+infinitive (base form of
the verb)
5. Finalize if your prediction makes sense.
Ex. Making predictions with colors

 Background
Information:
 RED + BLUE=

PURPLE
 YELLOW + BLUE
= GREEN
 What will happen when you mix yellow and
blue food coloring in a bowl of water?

 Knowledge that yellow

+ blue = green
 Use clues from the

experiment (mix
yellow food coloring
with blue food coloring
in a bowl of water)
 You can now make a
prediction.
Lets test

prediction.

The water will turn into green.

Ex. Making Predictions with the weather
 He predicts the
weather by looking at
clouds and wind
patterns on the radar.
 Uses clues (rain
clouds) and his
knowledge that
clouds can cause
rain to predict if it will
rain tomorrow.
