Naming Yourself- Add “Overseas” or “International”

Trade Name and Logo- Create a brand name, letterhead,


Business Card

Location- CP or Nehru place in New Delhi, Fort or Nariman


Point in Mumbai, Mount road in Madras etc.
Avoid home Based Business
Bank Account
Permanent Income- Tax Account Number

Registration Formalities
Importer’s Exporter’s Code (IEC) Number- Any person whether
an individual or a firm or a Co. importing or Exporting goods into
India will require IEC no. IEC no. is to be filled in the bill of Entry or
Shipping Bill.
Not Required in following cases
1. Ministries /Department s of the central or state Govt.
2. Person Importing/Exporting goods for there personal use not
connected with trade.
3. Person Importing/Exporting goods from Nepal, Myanmar (Indo-
Myanmar Border) provided the CIF of single consignment not
Exceeding then INR 25000.

Documents Required
1. Profile of Importer And Exporter
2. Bank Receipt/ DD for Rs. 1000/- as fee
3. Certificate from the applicant in the form at Annexure 17
4. Two copies of Passport Size Photograph of Applicant, Duly
Attested by Banker of applicant.
5. A copy of PAN
6. NON RESIDENT INTREST-In case of NRI Need approval for
investment.

IEC Certificate
An IEC Certificate will be issued in form of Annexure 18.
• Endorsement to Banker- The Copy of IEC No. shall be endorsed to
concerned banker.
• Validity- The IEC no. allotted to a firm will be valid for all its branches
as indicated in the IEC No., Import/Export of any commodity by that
firm. No Expiry Date
• Duplicate Copy- Where an IEC No. once lost or misplaced, the
licensing authority who issued the original certificate may consider
request for grant of duplicate copy of IEC No., if accompanied by an
affidavit.
• Ineffective IEC- The IEC allotted to any person becomes ineffective
after expiry of 60 days from the date of change in Name/Address of its
holder. They will not be entitled for any benefit as prescribed under the
EXIM Policy.

Registration with Export
Promotion Councils, etc.
Registration with Export Promotion Councils and other authorities
help in obtaining facilities provided by these organizations.
Any Person applying for:
1. A license to import/export items listed as restricted item in ITC
classification of EXIM.
2. Any other benefit or commission under the EXIM policy is
required to furnish a RCMC no.

Sales Tax Registration : For procuring export gods from
manufacturers or exporting goods free of sales tax, get yourself
registered with the sales tax Deptt. Of State/Union Territory
where you are located.
Central Excise Regulation/Declaration: Every person who
curves, produces. Manufacture, carries on trade hold
warehouse, otherwise uses excisable goods shall get registered
with jurisdictional range of officers.

Choosing a right product for export, seek the help of
various export promotion institutes like EP Councils,
IIFT and the Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO)
