5-set venn diagram

Linus Ho, Ivan Lee and Martin

Leung
Example of 4 set venn diagram
As you can see, this is already very confusing and it is getting unclear what is
what, compared to 3 set or 2 set venn diagrams.
5 Set venn diagram
This is literally unreadable, and it is clear that this is not a viable solution for 5
set venn diagrams.

Set A = {x | 1 ≤ x ≤ 210, multiple of 2, whole number}

Set B = {x | 1 ≤ x ≤ 210, multiple of 3, whole number}

Set C = {x | 1 ≤ x ≤ 210, multiple of 5, whole number}

Set D = {x | 1 ≤ x ≤ 210, multiple of 7, whole number}

Set E = {x | 1 ≤ x ≤ 210, multiple of 11, whole number}

Another example of 5 set venn diagram
advantages/disadvantages
Advantages:
- It’s very detailed, it could fit in lots of information.
- It can be very colorful and visual

Disadvantages:
- Nobody can actually get any information easily from it as it
is too complicated.
- It is very messy.
Would you draw the venn diagram differently
Would you have drawn your 5-set Venn Diagram differently if
you were to include the set of multiples of 11 instead of 1?
Why or why not?

Yes, because if the set was a multiple of 1, it will include

everything. So if it was changed to 11, the whole diagram
would have to be changed and it will ge a lot more confusing.
To what extent can you represent
connections between more than three sets

The more sets are in the venn diagram, the more

complicated it gets. The point of a venn diagram is to
clearly show the similarities and differences between data
sets.

When you start to get 4 sets or above, it starts getting very

unclear and it’s almost impossible to understand what
each area represents.
Our opinion
We believe a venn diagram of 3 is the maximum for the
optimal understanding. Any more sets of data in the venn
diagram will confuse the reader a lot.

It is very counterintuitive to do so, and we believe this is

only good as a thought experiment, to see how far venn
diagrams can go.
Conclusion

4-5 set venn diagrams are very confusing for the

people. Even though it is more aesthetically
pleasing, it is very complicated and is not
beneficial in presenting ideas. 2-3 set venn
diagrams would be more suitable.
