S.No. Sound Path Time Delay Gap Listening Condition
Difference (ft) (ms)

## 2. 23 to 34 20 to 30 Good for speech, Fair for Music

3. 34 to 50 30 to 45 Marginal (blurred)

4. 50 to 68 45 to 60 Unsatisfactory

## 5. >68 > 60 Poor, echo if strong

Where path difference is the difference in length of direct path and reflected path
from the source to the listener.

la

## For an echo to be heard, there should be a proper reflection of sound with

sufficient strength.
Example:

## Location 1 - Path Difference : (11 + 18la– 12) ‘ = 17’ < 23’

Location 2 – Path difference : (16 + 26 – 33) ’ = 9’ < 23’
Aim:
To identify the sound quality at 10 different locations in a rectangular auditorium seating
1000 people.

## Seating widths – 1m,

1.5m(at intervals)
Aisles – 1m,
0.5m(at intervals)

 A multiple aisle arrangement will have maximum 14 to 16 chairs per row with aisle way
access at both ends.

 If there is a single aisle access, the number of chairs are limited to 7 or 8 per row.
