THE AGE OF AISHA – PART 1

BY IBRAHIM FAROOQUI & INCOGNITO ISLAMIC PRODUCTIONS

OBJECTIVES:

• What was Aisha’s age upon marriage and

consummation

• Answering the Objections

• Conclusion
WHAT WAS AISHA’S AGE UPON MARRIAGE AND
CONSUMMATION:

 "Narrated 'Aisha:
 "Narrated 'Aisha:

Allah's Apostle said (to me), "You have

that the Prophet married her when she
been shown to me twice in (my) dreams. A
was six years old and he consummated
man was carrying you in a silken cloth and
his marriage when she was nineyears
said to me, 'This is your wife.' I uncovered
old, and then she remained with him for
it; and behold, it was you. I said to myself,
nine years (i.e., till his death) (Sahih
'If this dream is from Allah, He will cause it
Bukhari, Volume 7, Book 62, Number 64)"
to come true.' "" (Sahih Bukhari,Volume 7,
Book 62, Number 15)
ANSWERING THE OBJECTIONS:

1. Hisham Bin Urwa

2. Asma was ten years older than Aisha
3. Fatima’s age in comparison to Aisha
4. Aisha’s Participation in Uhud
5. Aisha and Surat Al Qamar
1: HISHAM BIN URWA:

 They say that Hisham bin Urwa was the only narrator to narrate this Hadith, however that
is wrong. The same narration has also been narrated by Al Aswad Bin Yazid, Abi Salamah
Bin Abdul Rahman Bin Awf and others. Not to mention that the Hadith has been narrated in
other works of Hadith like Sunan Abi Dawud, Sunan Nasai, Ibn Majah, Musnad Ahmad etc.
So it’s not just narrated by Hisham Bin Urwa. It’s also narrated by Yahya Al Hatib (Abi
Dawud) , Abu Ubayda (in Nasai). So all these people who met Aisha narrated this from her.
And you also have Mursal narrations from Tabieen in this which shows that everyone
mutually agreed on this fact. Humaydi mentiones in his Musnad that Hisham Bin Urwa "was
excellent in what he narrated from his father from Aisha"

 They say Hishams memory got weak and he began to mix up narrations. This is wrong as
Imam Adh Dhahabi denies it and refutes Abul Hassan Al Qatan.
2: ASMA WAS TEN YEARS OLDER THAN AISHA

 This has been states by Ibn Al Zinad who came much

after Asma. Ibn Al Zinad is also weak as it has been
mentioned by many Scholars. The evidence in this
argument is very implicit whereas the Hadith is
explicit, so we can’t choose implicit over explicit. In
addition to that it can’t be proven that Asma was 100
years old when she passed away in 73 AH. Nor can it
be proven that she was ten years older than Aisha.
3: FATIMA’S AGE IN COMPARISON TO AISHA:

 This confusion results from a mix up of narrations mentioned in Al

Isaba. The story has been mentioned by Al Waqidi his chain from Abu
Jafar Al Baqir on thr authority of Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib saying
"Fatima was born in the year of the elephant, and the Prophet was
35 years old". Is Waqidi reliable?

 Imam Ahmad said about him : "he is a liar"

 Nasai said "Those who fabricate lies on the Prophet are 4, Al
Waqidi..."
 Bukhari said "Matrook"
 Another interesting fact is that Abu Jafar was born in 56 Hijri, whereas
Abbas passed away in 33 Hijri, so the difference between Abu Jafar
and Abbas is 23 years hence the chain of this narration is broken. So
Abu Jafar never heard from Abbas.

 The correct opinion on the birth of Fatima is as Ibn Abdil Barr

mentioned, that Fatima was born one year before the Prophet was
appointed by Allah as a Prophet. So the Prophet was 39, when Fatima
was born. Or a bit before that.

 And Ibn Hajar mentioned that Aisha was born 4 or 5 yeard after
Prophet was appointed as a Prophet.

 So Fatima was 5 years older than Aisha.

4: AISHA’S PARTICIPATION IN UHUD:

  She didn’t take part in the battle, she was

only a nurse in the battle so the Qiyas
between her and Ibn Umar is invalid. Anas
Bin Malik was present in Badr without
partaking in the battle and he was below
the age of 15.
5: AISHA AND SURAT AL QAMAR:

 Age of Jariya can range from 3-8 years old.

Due to the ambiguous nature of the dates
involved here we can’t pick this argument
and can only pick the Hadith.
SOME FACTS ABOUT AISHA (RA):

• Historical context of the marriage

• The blissful marriage

• Aisha (RA) was not a victim

CONCLUSION:

 The established age at marriage

was six and upon consummation was 9

 We take the explicit evidence of authentic Ahadith

and Consensus of Ulama over implicit ambiguous claims
