climate varies from the northern parts to the southern CARIBBEAN COAST REGION • It comprises the northern part of Colombia. • It is mainly composed of eight tropical departments, located contiguous to the Caribbean. • Its economy is based on tourism, livestock and mining. • Known for its peacefulness and easygoing demeanour, the inhabitants from the region enjoy a warm and dry climate and a clean and calm seaboard which is the main pillar of their identity. ANDEAN NATURAL REGION • It can be found in the center of Colombia. It is the most populated region of Colombia. • The climate and vegetation of the region vary considerably according to altitude. However, it can be said that, generally, it is mild, warm or cold, which provides the ideal conditions for agriculture richness, allowing to by one of the main producer worldwide for products like: coffee, flowers, cacao, fruits and so on. • The Andes region which have different thermal floors and is located in the tropical region, has made Colombia one of the richest country in flora and fauna diversity. PACIFIC REGION • It hosts the most biodiversity and presents the highest annual rainfall density in the country. • In the Pacific region is located the well known Darien jungle in the limits with Panama, with undiscovered places, were unclassified species of fauna and flora can be found. • The humpback whales selected the Pacific region to breed and mate, and some turtle species to deposit their eggs, this is the reason why many tourist decide to come every year to watch them in their natural habitat, enjoying the beautiful symphony produced by the whales during their mating. • Generally speaking, it holds a humid tropical climate. ORINOQUIA REGION
• It is also known colloquially as the Eastern Plains
from the Spanish Llanos Orientales. • It is situated in the east part of Colombia. • The ecosystems of the region are tropical savanna with gallery forests and wetlands along the rivers. • Its economy is based on fishing, livestock, agriculture and trade. • The region covers most of the area of the departments of Meta, Arauca, Casanare and Vichada. • “Joropo”, “Galerón”, and “Zumba que zumba” are some of most traditional dances in this region. AMAZON NATURAL REGION • Amazonía region in southern Colombia encompasses the departments of Amazonas, Caquetá, Guainía, Guaviare, Putumayo and Vaupés, and covers the 35% of Colombia's total territory. • The region is mostly covered by tropical rainforest, or jungle, which is a part of the massive Amazon rainforest. • More specifically, it can classified as a tropical moist broadleaf forest. • There are several Indian festivities and ceremonies and they have a great religious character.
