Solid is a one of the phases of
matter which occupies space.
- It can be found everywhere.
- It has appropriate properties.
- It can be smelled, tasted and
touched.
- It has texture, size and color.
- It has definite shape and volume.

Like solids, liquids can be seen,
smelled, tasted and touched. It also
occupies space. But unlike solids,
they can flow, move and change
their position easily.
- It does not have definite shape.
- It has definite volume.
Have you tried
dropping a stone or ice
into a glass half filled
with water? What will
happen to the water
inside the glass if you
continue dropping more
stone or ice into it? Water
flows over the glass
because the space
occupied by water is
taken by the ice.
