"driving to save lives, time,
and money, in spite of the
conditions around you and
the actions of others."
Is the ability to avoid collisions , traffic violations,
vehicle abuse , schedule delays; and ability to avoid
discourtesy to others.
Adopting defensive driving techniques can keep
you and others safe on the road. Defensive driving
simply means to drive without having a preventable
accident. Stay alert, leave enough space between
your vehicle and others, and adjust appropriately to
any dangerous situations. This will help everyone
get to their destinations safely. You may even save
money on auto insurance by staying accident-free
or by getting certified as a defensive driver!
• Avoid distractions. Defensive driving means focusing on
one thing: driving. Make sure that you’re not getting
distracted by conversations, the radio, your phone, or
anything else. To be as alert as possible, put your phone
and other distractions away and turn your radio down. If
you’re distracted when talking, don’t participate in
conversations until you reach your destination.[1]
• Stay alert. Notice things like directional signs, speed limit
markers, and signals as you drive. You should also make sure to
periodically check your mirrors for a full view of the conditions
around your vehicle. Getting into the habit of noticing these
thing keeps you alert and ready for anything that comes your
way when driving.[2] It is very hard to stay alert when driving
while sleepy or under the influence. Don’t put yourself and
others in danger. Wait until you’re in a better condition, or ask
someone else to drive.
• Look ahead down the road. Instead of just focusing on
what’s right in front of your car, make sure to regularly
scan farther down the road. That way, you’ll be
prepared for what’s to come. Look out for things like:[
• Vehicles slowing down in the distance.
• Erratic drivers in either lane.
• Hazards in the road, like fallen limbs or sharp turns.
Safe driving depends greatly upon your ability to correctly analyze
traffic situations. Good seeing habits are important for defensive driving;
however , driving is first and foremost a thinking task.
in defensive driving , you begin by “reading” traffic situations to gather
information , for you decisions and action . To process this information
properly you must

DRIVER’S EDUCATION
The IMPORTANCE of DRIVER
EDUCATION
1. Provides the knowledge , understanding,
skills, and attitudes needed for a greater
safety both as an operator of an automobile
and as a pedestrian
2. Lessens the possibility of costly, injurious
and sometimes deadly accidents
3. Reduces the cost of policing, property
replacement, etc.

RULES !

SMITH SYSTEM
Make the road a safe place by employing these following 5 rules
that can dramatically reduce the risk of major accidents on
highways and roads.

1. Aim high in steering

2. The big picture
3. Keep your eyes moving
4. Leave yourself an out
5. Make sure they see you
AIM HIGH
The first rule for these method means
the driver should aim high in STEERING
and FOCUS high on their attention to
view the road as whole.
The Big Picture
“be aware of your surroundings at ALL
times”
notice how other drivers behave on the
road , having the whole picture means
that you are doing your part to keep
your vehicle as safe as possible while
moving a second.
Keep Your Eyes Moving
Consistent eye movement prevents your
body from entering the trance state,
keeping you alert to every driving
condition ahead of you.
Leave Your Self an Out
Leave your self a way out, DO NOT follow
other vehicle too closely , and always
anticipate what choices other driver
make.
Make Sure They See You

The WORST thing a driver can do is ASSUME.

Assume other drivers can see them ,assume other

drivers are not dangerous, or even assume they
will just get to their destination safely.

...As a driver , make sure that other drivers can

see you and anticipate your move.
QUESTION
KEY !
1st key
Look 15 seconds into your future.

2nd key
Look for HAZARDS.

3rd key
Don’t stare.

4th key
Monitor the space around you.

5th key
Use your signals.
DEFENSIVE DRIVING

CHARACTERISTICS

KNOWLEDGE
ALERTNESS
ANTICIPATION
JUDGMENT
SKILL
knowledge
Good defensive drivers will have knowledge of the traffic laws
and the basics about their motor vehicles and avoiding
hazards.
alertness
Good defensive drivers are alert to what is going on around them.
They are well rested and would never take any drugs or
alcohol that could affect their concentration before riding a
motor vehicle.
anticipation
Good defensive drivers anticipate what may or may not happen,
and they take action to avoid many problems. They anticipate
potential hazards from other motorist , pedestrians , weather
and equipment and take steps to minimize the risk.
judgment
Good defensive drivers do not make risky manoeuvres like try to
beat the red lights. They don’t try to pass unless it’s safe and
they look for alternatives to any traffic situation.
skill
• Good defensive drivers have the technical skills to operate the
motor vehicles safely through traffic without endangering
anyone else on the road. They can handle the vehicle even in
hazardous conditions.
DEFENSIVE DRIVING

TECHNIQUES
one of the most areas in any road is the intersection. Cross traffic, turning
vehicles and pedestrians can make getting across an intersection
dangerous.
Many intersection accidents occur when driver fail to use their turn signals or
don’t know the right-of-way laws. Aggressive drivers will try to beat the
red light and speed dangerously through an intersection.
Using defensive driving techniques :
• KNOW
• SHOW
• SLOW
• GO

Remember :
the vehicle or pedestrian in the intersection always has the right-of-way ,
even if the traffic light is green.
QUESTIONS:

Do you know how to drive? If ‘yes’ do

you enjoy driving?
Every time you get behind the wheel, you're
operating a very dangerous piece of machinery.
Whether you're an experienced driver or you've
just finished driver's ed class, there's always room
for improvement when it comes to driving. Here
are ten things you can do to hone your safe, smart
driving skills.
Coolant
A coolant is a substance, typically liquid or gas, that is
used to reduce or regulate the temperature of a system.
An ideal coolant has high thermal capacity, low
viscosity, is low-cost, non-toxic, chemically inert, and
neither causes nor promotes corrosion of the cooling
system. Some applications also require the coolant to
be an electrical insulator.
