BSC Measurement

Page 12
SCCP/MTP3/ LAPD Measurement
• SCCP Measurement refers to the measurement of SCCP original signaling points
(OSPs)

• MTP3 Measurement
• Message Transfer Part Level 3 (MTP3) Measurement is used to measure the
MTP3 link.

 LAPD Measurement is used to measure the basic

signaling process and the traffic volume on the Abis
and Pb interfaces

Page 13
System Load Measurement
• CPU usage of the BSC boards and the GBAM.

• If the CPU usage reaches 80% occasionally does not necessarily mean that the BSC

is faulty.

• If the CPU usage is high for a long time, exceed the buffer ability. The BSC will

abandon new service requests.

• After a board or the GBAM runs for 30 seconds, the BSC measures the CPU usage

every second and accumulate.

Page 14
BTSM/Resources/MSC/CBC/PCU Measurement

• BTSM Measurement - Base Transceiver Station Management (BTSM)

measurement is used to measure the state of the BTS, cell, and TRX, and link
communication state between the BSC and the BTS.
• Resources Measurement is used to measure the state of circuits on the A
interface, Pb interface, and Ater interface, and the TC resources.
• MSC Measurement is used to measure the number of MSC resets and the
number of messages that the BSC receives from the MSC.
• Cell Broadcast Center (CBC) measurement refers to the measurement of the
reception of cell broadcast data and the response of the BSC to the data.
• PCU Measurement is used to measure the number of messages that the BSC
receives from the PCU.

Page 15
Paging Measurement
• Paging Measurement refers to the measurement of the number of pagings on
the A interface and Abis interface.

Common principle
• Systematical logic
– From whole system to specific cell
• Integrality
– Observe the change trend of the items for more
than one week and the changing trend of each day.
• Relativity
– Relationship between various kinds of traffic
statistics items

Page 21
Basic solution
• Preparation
– At least one week traffic data
– Engineer parameter and geographic display of
distribution of sites
• Step
– BSC measurement-----worst KPI
– KPI measurement per cell------worst cell
– Check reason ------sub-item in Call measurement
and MR measurement

Page 26
MS BTS BSC MSC (1) ~ (8) refer to the random access
procedure and immediate assignment
procedure. In the two procedures, BSS
allocates signaling channels to MS.
Between (10) ~ (11), there may exist an
authentication procedure, ciphering mode
setting procedure and classmark interrogation
procedure (updating procedure).
(14) ~ (22) refer to the TCH assignment
procedure. In this procedure, BSS allocates
the resources such as TCHs, A interface
circuit, etc. to MS.
(30) ~ (40) refer to the release procedure.
The procedure is a release procedure in which
the calling MS first hangs up. The logical
channels on Um interface are released prior

Page 28
to the physical channels.
