Malware Malware is a term used to describe a broad category of damaging software that includes viruses, worms, etc... The effects of malware range from brief annoyance to computer crashes and identity theft. Malware is easier to avoid than it is to remove. The reality Almost 40% of the computer household users are affected by computer viruses Nearly 90% of emails contains malware Some virus writers are often children who wrote to experiment their programming skills 6,000 new viruses are created every month You can’t get a virus simply be reading email It is only activated when you click a link or open an attachment 1 out of 10 programs downloaded is malicious Over 85% of all the known viruses are for Microsoft platforms Your responsibility Adopt the mantra: “It’s not a matter of if my computer fails, but when.” How to Prevent Malware From Infecting Your Computer Avoid the use of removable media devices unless the media are uninfected
