Peer Assessment

Starter: Read through your peer’s assessment

Level 3: Identify what force is being investigated

Friction
Level 4:
• Describe how you planned to see if
smoother objects travel faster
• Learners should write about what they did
in their experiment and what they saw
Level 5:
Explain what friction is:
• Friction is a force that is always in the opposite direction to
the moving object
• It happens when two surfaces rub together
• Whenever any two objects rub together there is a force that
makes them not glide smoothly
• Friction is also able to take the energy of moving objects
and turn it into heat

Explain what you found out

Level 6:
• Were your results what you expected? If not, why?

• Analyse each material, explaining why one material will allow

the block to move faster or slower than the other:
1. The block covered in fur has more grip than the one covered in
sand paper so it would travel slower.
2. The rougher the surface, the greater the friction therefore the
block covered in sandpaper would travel faster than the block of
wood.
3. We can reduce friction by oiling the surfaces. This means that the
surfaces no longer rub directly on each other, but slide past on a
layer of oil. It's now much easier to move so the block covered in
oil would travel faster than the block of wood.
Level 7:
• What type of energy can friction produce?
Heat
• Explain where friction is used as an advantage and
as a disadvantage.
1. An ice skater performing a routine A
2. A driver, driving a car on a wet road D
3. A mountain biker riding down a steep muddy hill D
4. A goalkeeper trying to save a goal with their hands in
football D

KEYWORD: protease, lipase, amylase, enzyme,

breakdown, digestion

STARTER: How do we get

energy from food?
Starter: How do we get energy
from food?
Through the process of digestion

What is it?
The breakdown of large insoluble food molecules
into small, soluble food molecules.

Why?
So that they can be absorbed into the blood
stream (through the lining of the small intestine)
for our bodies to use.
Enzymes
Different enzymes are added by the digestive
system at various stages.

There are different enzymes for different

functions

Enzymes help breakdown food

Starch molecules –
large and branched

Amylase – digestive
Breaks down starch to
enzyme
Maltose

Still too big!

Maltase in the small

intestine breaks down
maltose to glucose
units Readily absorbed.

Enzymes help _____________ food.

Stages, breakdown, enzymes, functions

Extension: Draw a diagram to show what an enzyme is
