FIGURES OF
SPEECH
Figure of speech is a word or phrase used in
a non-literal sense for rhetorical or vivid
effect.
SIMILE
- a figure of speech with an indirect
comparison of two things with the use of “as”
or “like”
Examples:
METAPHOR
- a figure of speech having a direct
comparison of two things without using “as”
or like”
PERSONIFICATION
-the attribution of a personal nature or
human characteristics to something
nonhuman, or the representation of an
abstract quality in human form.
HYPERBOLE

- These are exaggerated statements or


claims not meant to be taken literally.
ONOMATOPOEIA

-It is the formation of a word from a sound


associated with what is named
