Wade loves summer vacation.

Sam wishes
he was still back in school. This summer they are
going to the beach. Sam can't wait to play in the
waves. Wade wants to build sand castles. Both
activities will make them very dirty. Sam will
head home to take a shower. Wade prefers to

 What is a coordinating
conjunction?
• A coordinating conjunction joins words or
sentences that are independent or equal.

• A coordinating conjunctions that we have in

english are:

in order to identify the conjunctions in a sentence.
– F = For
– A = And
– N = Nor
– B = But
– O = Or
– Y = Yet
– S = So
• Be careful not to mistake a preposition for a conjunction!
• It can connect to a word to another word,
phrase to phrase, and clause to clause.

• Ex. I was alone and sad.

I heard her put something down and
