Plastic Core
Homemade Weights

CORPUZ, Raphael John Kurloby B.

This topic is about
reducing the plastic in
the household by
making cement
weights with a plastic
middle.
CORPUZ, Raphael John Kurloby B.
The independent variable is
the ratio of sand to plastic.
The dependent variable is the
durability and usability of the
cement weights when
compared to the ratios of the
mixture used.
CORPUZ, Raphael John Kurloby B.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The research aims to find
out the best ratio of
plastic to sand to test
the durability and
usability of the weights.

CORPUZ, Raphael John Kurloby B.

OBJECTIVES

 Reduce the plastic wastes

produced in the household
 To provide alternatives for people
who cannot afford gym
equipments
 Help people have a more active
lifestyle while helping save the
earth

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The research will be of

importance in helping reduce the
plastic wastes in our evironment.
This also provides alternative for
people who can’t afford gym
equipments but want to have an
active lifestyle.

METHODOLOGY
 MATERIALS USED

- Plastic bottles
- Sand
- Cement
- PVC pipes
- Cans
- Water

METHODOLOGY

METHODOLOGY
First, the plastic bottles
were cut into small pieces
to make it easier to mix
with the cement. The
cement is mixed with sand
and water then the cut-up
plastics were added. We
made three setups with
different ratios of plastic
and sand to compare its
effect in the durability and
usability of the weights.
CORPUZ, Raphael John Kurloby B.
RESULTS
 WEIGHT
 SETUP 1 (50% Cement, 25% Sand,
25% Plastic) = 350 g
 SETUP 2 (50% Cement, 37.5% Sand,
12.5% Plastic) = 420 g
 SETUP 3 (50% Cement, 12.5% Sand,
37.5% Plastic) – 350 g

CORPUZ, Raphael John Kurloby B.

RESULTS
 DURABILITY
 SETUP 2 was more brittle than
SETUP 3. As seen on the video,
SETUP 3 was still intact after the
drop test while SETUP 2 broke into
pieces.

CORPUZ, Raphael John Kurloby B.

CONCLUSION
 Therefore, we can conclude that SETUP 3 has
the best ratio of plastic to cement and sand
(50% cement, 12.5% sand, 37.5% plastic). This
is because it turned out to have the same
weight as SETUP 1 (which has equal ratio of
sand to plastic) and proved during the drop
test that it was more durable than SETUP 2.
 Therefore, following SETUP 3’s ratio would
help displace the plastic wastes in our
environment and put them to good use.
