Tardiness refers to the habit of being late. A tardy student presents
lack of responsibility. Being tardy all the time to class show
carelessness and a waste of time. Being in time is not only a duty of
students, but also a part of good manners, respect, and reputation.
However, student should know how to value their time and do their
best not to be tardy all the times. In every school there’s an issue
why some student are chronically late in class because of too much
using of gadgets. Sometimes they have their own problem. There
are some of student is far from the school, most of them come to
school late because of the transportation. And according to school
policy, tardy student may be warned the first to times they arrive
late. After that they may be given detentions and parents can be
consulted. They can also be sent to the principal’s office if the
problem persists. Tardiness in school, if left unchecked can create
serious systemic problems. Tardiness is a problem whether it is
practiced by students or teachers. It usually takes two forms,
tardiness for school and tardiness for classes throughout the school
day.
Student must understand the importance of punctuality and how it connect to their future
working lives, since the school is also mandated to produce good citizens and workers. Tardy
student miss important instruction and get lower grade or fail subjects. The tardiness of students
also disturb other student and the teacher, distracting the flow and system of the whole class.
Lateness is disruptive to the individual and the work of the class and may be an early warning of
other difficulties. The tardy student creates a diversion of attention as he/she walks late in class
and disturbs other students and the teacher with his/her inquires about the missed lesson. When
students come to class late, it can disrupt the flow of a lecture or discussion, distract other
students, impede learning, and generally erode class morale. Moreover, if left unchecked,
lateness can become chronic and spread throughout the class. Because there are a number of
possible reasons students arrive to class late, considering which causes are at the root of the
problem can help guide instructors to appropriate responses and strategies. Understanding the
reasons, however, does not require tolerating the behavior.

Definition
of terms
 Tardiness - is the quality of being late. When people don't
show up on time, they're guilty of tardiness. When you're late
for something, you're tardy, so tardiness refers to the habit of
being late. Because of their tardiness, some people almost
never arrive at work, school, or other places when they're
expected. Tardiness is very annoying for the people waiting for
the tardy person, and too much tardiness at work could get you
fired. Tardiness comes from the latin word tardus, "slow,
sluggish, dull, or stupid."
 Carelessness - failure to act with the prudence that a reasonable person would
exercise under the same circumstances.

 Chronically - in a habitual and longstanding manner. In a slowly

developing and long lasting manner.

 Policy - the purpose of this policy is to establish the requirements for

reporting absences, to provide guidelines for the handling of tardiness, early
departures, and unscheduled absences, and to outline employees' need to
adhere to established work schedules to maintain efficient, effective
operations throughout the university.
 Detention - is a word for confinement or imprisonment, usually for a short
time. it's also a punishment where children must stay after school. if you're in
detention, you probably did something wrong: you're being confined against
your will. usually, detention is a short period of confinement, like if someone
is arrested and then released. one thing is true of both kinds of detention: no
one wants to be there.

 Peers - is someone at your own level. peer comes from the Latin par which
means equal. when you are on par with someone, you are their peer. if kids
your age are pressuring you to do something you don't want to do, that's
peer pressure. in the sport of basketball, Michael Jordan was without peer, no
one could equal his talent. when he switched to baseball, he found himself to
be among peers again.
 Dropout - A dropout is someone who doesn't finish a project or program,
especially school. If you quit high school before you graduate, some people
will call you a dropout.
 Truancy - if you pretend you're sick to stay home from school and then
sneak out to a baseball game, that's truancy, meaning it’s an unauthorized
absence.
 Attention - the noun attention can also refer to an interest in something or
someone. You probably pay attention in school when your teachers bring up
topics in which you are personally interested. You can also shower attention
on those you love or indulge. The word also refers to "standing at attention,"
as in the military — by standing up straight, arms down at the sides, and feet
together.
 Mandated - a mandate gives authority. if the government gives schools a
mandate to test more, then the schools had better give more tests. a
politician who believes in higher taxes and then gets elected considers that a
mandate to raise taxes. when you have a mandate, it's like a ticket to get
something done.

 Diversion - can be something that takes you off the course you are on, like
a detour while you are traveling, or a game of tennis that takes you away
from the stress of work. the noun diversion and the verb divert are related.
both have to do with a change of focus or direction. conversely, some
diversions are unwelcome, like when the guy next to you is texting during
your french midterm.
