 Time is the enemy of yours in IELTS, so you have to

organize your time yourself.


 There is no special time allotted to you to transfer your
answers to the answer sheet, so you should directly write
the answer in the answer booklet while reading.
 60 minutes i.e. an hour is there for you to answer 40
questions, which is actually not easy, so divide your time
for 3 passages and work out. It would give fruitful
result. At the end at least keep ten minutes to re-check
your answers.
 Read instructions.
 Follow them accurately.
 Check the number of words allowed in each answer.
 Is the answer a word or a letter. Eg ABC or TF?
 Do you have to come up with the answer yourself or take
it from the text?
 Use capital letters at the beginning of proper nouns.
 If sign of dollar or pound is asked, write before the figure.
Eg. $25 or 25 dollars.
 Spelling is important.
 Plural isto be taken care of i.e. if the answer is plural,
don’t forget to write ‘s’ at the end of the word.

 Vocabulary is very important to crack IELTS well and its


life time learning process. So, read English newspaper, use
internet, refer dictionary and keep updating your
vocabulary.

 Synonyms knowledge as well as antonyms knowledge can


help a student lot to give correct answer.
 Who- the name of a person, organization.

 What- a thing or activity.

 Where- a place.

 When-a time-specific time-time related to frequency.

 How many/much- a number or uncountable noun.

 Why- a reason.
 Examine the statements carefully to identify common
features
 This will indicate what you need to look for.
 Elimination of wrong answer is easier than finding one
correct answer.
 Usually you can eliminate two answers quite quickly,
then read the remaining two and go back to the passage
and find the correct answer.
 Read the gapped text carefully and think about the
meaning and grammar of suitable words to fill the gaps.

 Note down your ideas; when you read the text you are
then reading for confirmation of most answers or checking
that the answers you have found are in the text if this is
required in the instructions.
 You should read the headings first. Then read the
paragraph one and return to the headings to
choose the most appropriate one.
 At first go, you may choose two, which you can
check later on.
 You usually don’t need to read the whole
paragraph.
 Occasionally, you are required to read the whole
paragraph.
 the first sentence is the topic sentence.
 Be careful with statements that have
two parts, connected by words like
‘unless’ or because. Often both parts of
the sentence may individually true or
false, but without a link given
between them. In that case the answer
is ‘not given’.

 Ifthe partial information is given in


the paragraph, then there are chances
that the answer is ‘NO’.
 Usually Answers of T ,F ,NG are given in a
sequence.

 Read the instructions carefully. Sometimes it


asks T , F , NG and sometimes Y , N , NG.

 Don’t mis-write this.


 Skimming and scanning can help you a lot to crack
the reading well.
 Years and main words should definitely be underlined.
 Don’t use your general knowledge to answer the
questions.
 All the answers should be taken from the text itself.
 Make notes wherever you feel the answer in the text.
 It is unlikely that you have answered all the questions
correctly. Use the left time to check the answer.

 Don’t spend a lot of time checking one question if there


are others you are also aware of.

 Don’t leave any answer blank.

 If you have doubt, make a guess.

 There is no negative so you are advised to attempt all.


 Take proper care of singular-plural eg- whether the
answer is book or books.

 While transferring the answers, take care of a sequence.

 Don’t leave any answer blank . If in doubt, guess it


out.

 There is nonegative marking, so if you guess even, you


have a chance of increasing your score.
