TABLE OF
SPECIFICATIONS
(TOS)
Why do we prepare TOS?
 validity of teacher-made tests

 alignment to the learning competencies discussed

 identify the domain being measured

 fair representative sample questions in each

learning competencies

 weight the different areas based on their

importance
What is TOS?
 A test blueprint
 A plan prepared by the teacher as a basis for test
construction
 It describes the topics to be covered by a test and
the number of items or points which will be
associated with each learning competency
 A table that helps teacher align learning
competencies, instructions and assessment
What you need to have in making TOS:
 Learning Competencies

 No. of days spent in each competency

 Domain of learning that you want to measure

 Total no. of items

Learning Competencies No. Domain of Learning and Item Total Percen-

Knowledge Process Under-
standing

1. Name the different 2

parts of the plant

2. Identify the function 2

of each part of the plant

3. Describes the 3
characteristics of plants

4. Classify plants 3
according to their
characteristics
TOTAL 10 30

Divide the number of items to the total number of days the teacher
has spent in teaching the lessons.
30 ÷ 10 = 3 Ratio – 3

Knowledge Process Under-

standing

1. Name the different parts

of the plant 2 6
2. Identify the function of
each part of the plant 2 6
3. Describes the
characteristics of plants 3 9

4. Classify plants according

to their characteristics 3 9

TOTAL 10 30

Learning Competency #1 was taught in 2 days;

thus, 2(# of days spent) multiplied by 3(ratio) = 6 (# of test items)
2 x 3= 6
Do the same process for LC #2,3 & 4

Indicate the test items that fall under the different domain of
learning ( Knowledge, Process, Understanding )
Domain of Learning
 Knowledge – answers the questions what, where, when
and who
( recall, define, describe, identify, label, enumerate, match,
name)

 Process – answers the question how

(solve, outline, explain, summarize, predict, translate)

 Understanding – answers the question why

(compare and contrast, justify, interpret, create, evaluate,)

Knowledge Process Under-

standing
1. Name the different 2 2

parts of the plant
2. Identify the 2 1 3
2 6 20%
function of each part
of the plant
3. Describes the 3 3 3
3 9 30%
characteristics of
plants
4. Classify plants 3 3 3
3 9 30%
according to their
characteristics
TOTAL 10 30 100%

To solve the percentage, divide the number of items per topic to its
total: LC# 1 ( 6÷ 30 = 0.2 X 100 = 20%
LC# 3 ( 9 ÷30 = 0.3 X 100 = 30%
You are now ready to make your
