The Analects

• "to learn and at due times to repeat what one has learnt,is
that not after all a pleasure?those friends should come to
one from afar,is this not after all delightful? To remain
unsoured even though one's merits are unrecognized by
others is that not after all what is expected of a
gentleman?"
• So it means: If someone have done something in repeat
that he have learned from you take that as a real honor or
happiness and if your value is unrecognize or not given
any attention you shouldn't react in exaggerated way for
you're expected to be humble and act in noble way for
you're a good person.
• Meaning of The Master said, “A young man's duty
is to behave well to his parents at home and to his
elders abroad, to be cautious in giving promises
and punctual in giving them, to kindly feelings
towards everyone, but seek the intimacy of good. If,
when all that is done, he has any energy to spare,
and then let him study the polite arts.“
• -Do not be a black sheep to your family.
• "
• “The good man does not grieve that other people
do not recognize his merits. His only anxiety is lest
he should fail to recognize theirs."
• This goup of words emphasizes the importance of
humility. We must don't focus on how people praise us for
what we have done good. Instead, let us focus on how we
encourage people to pursue their good deeds through
commending them. Most of the boastful and proud ones
fail. So let us not allow ourselves to become one of those.
• "He who rules by moral force is like the pole star, which
remains in its place where all the lesser stars do homage to
it"
• The quoted analects teaches us the outcome of being a righteous
leader. To be a good leader or ruler, one must be an inspiration, a
good example and a doer of his words. It is through this that a
leader gains respect and honor from his people.A leader who firmly
lives righteously will never be shaken by evil forces. Meaning he will
never yield or get tempted to do wrong.
• By so doing, people will be inspired to do the same.
• His days may pass by, but the memory of his good example will
remain, as steady as the pole star. And his followers will continue to
respect and honor him.
• Explain the meaning of "You, shall I teach you
what knowledge is? When you know a thing,
to recognize that you know it, and when you
do not know a thing, to recognize that you do
not know it. That is knowledge."
• It means that knowledge is when you do not
pretend to know it even though you don't
instead be true to yourself and tell if you do
not know it
• “In old days, men studied for the sake of self
improvement now adays men study to impress
other people”
• In old times, people(men) studied for the sake of
their own success but nowadays people study so
that they will be praise by other people bcoz of their
achievements that they have gained
