How we identify
dynamic, tempo and
timbre?

Pupunta, pupunta sa
Quiapo
Bibili bibili ng pako
Gagawa gagawa ng kubo
Folk songs are, quite literally,
songs of the people. And in
determining the identity of a
country, one can look no further
than this form of music for clues
to a particular culture.
BAHAY KUBO
Bahay kubo, kahit munti
Ang halaman doon ay sari-
sari.
Singkamas at talong,
sigarilyas at mani
Sitaw, bataw, patani.
Kundol, patola, upo’t kalabasa
At saka mayroon pang labanos,
mustasa,
sibuyas, kamatis, bawang at luya
May pumukol sa Pipit sa sanga ng isang
kahoy At nahagip ng bato ang pakpak ng
munting ibon
Dahil sa sakit, di nakaya pang lumipad
At ang nangyari ay nahulog ngunit parang
taong bumigkas

Mamang kay lupit, ang puso mo`y di

na nahabag
Pag pumanaw ang buhay ko, may isang pipit
na iiyak
May isang pipit na iiyak, may isang pipit
na iiyak
Leron, leron sinta, buko ng papaya Dala-
dala'y buslo, sisidlan ng bunga Pagdating
sa dulo'y nabali ang sanga Kapus
kapalaran, humanap ng iba.

Gumising ka Neneng, tayo'y manampalok

Dalhin mo ang buslo't sisidlan ng hinog
Pagdating sa dulo'y lalambalambayog Kumapit
ka Neneng, baka ka mahulog.

Ako'y ibigin mo, lalaking matapang Ang baril

ko'y pito, ang sundang ko'y siyam
Ang lalakarin ko'y parte ng dinulang Isang
pinggang pansit ang aking kalaban.
Magtanim ay di biro Halina, halina, mga kaliyag,
Maghapong nakayuko Tayo’y magsipag-unat-
Di man lang makaupo unat. Magpanibago tayo ng
Di man lang makatayo lakas Para sa araw ng
Braso ko’y bukas (Bisig ko’y
Baywang
namamanhid ko’y nangangawit. Baywang ko’y
namamanhid
Binti ko’y namimitig
nangangawit. Binti ko’y namimintig
Sa pagkababad sa tubig. Sa pagkababad sa tubig.)
Sa umaga, paggising Kay-pagkasawing-palad
Ang lahat, iisipin Ng inianak sa hirap,
Kung saan may patanim Ang bisig kung di iunat,
May masarap na Di kumita ng pilak
pagkain.

Alimango sa dagat (nonsense chant)
malaki at masarap! Crab in the sea,
Kay hirap hulihin big and delicious!
sapagkat So difficult to catch
nangangagat. Tong, because it bites.
tong, tong, tong Tong, tong, tong,
pakitong-kitong. pakitong- kitong.

Salaginto at salagubang

Santo Niño sa Pandakan

Putoseko sa tindahan
Kung ayaw mong magpautang
Uubusin ka ng langgam

Mama, mama, namamangka

Pasakayin yaring bata.
Pagdating sa Maynila
Ipagpalit ng manika.

Ale, ale, namamayong

Pasukubin yaring sanggol.
Pagdating sa Malabon
Ipagpalit ng
Paruparong bukid na lilipad-lipad
Sa gitna ng daan papaga-pagaspas
Isang bara ang tapis
Isang dangkal ang manggas
Ang sayang de kola
Isang piyesa ang sayad
May payneta pa siya — uy!
May suklay pa man din —
uy!
Nagwas de-ohetes ang palalabasin
Haharap sa altar at mananalamin
At saka lalakad nang pakendeng-
May tatlong bibe akong nakita
Mataba mapayat mga bibe
Ngunit ang may pakpak
Sa likod na iisa
Siya ang lider na nagsabi ng
Kwak, kwak
Kwak, kwak, kwak (2x)
Siya ang lider na nagsabi ng
Kwak, kwak

Tayo na sa ilog ang sabi

Kumending ng kumending
Ang mga bibe
Ngunit ang may pakpak
Sa likod na iisa
Siya ang lider na nagsabi ng
Kwak, kwak
Kwak, kwak, kwak (2x)
Siya ang lider na nagsabi ng
Kwak, kwak
