• What is Art Appreciation?
• A way to motivate ideas and allows individuals to illustrate their feelings when viewing pieces of art. • It helps develop critical and innovative skills in thinking and teaching essential qualities in listening, observing, and responding to multiple viewpoints. • It requires the ability to differentiate what is apparent and what is not. • Why do People Create Works of Art? • Art – original record of human needs and achievements • arti (Latin) – craftsmanship, inventiveness, mastery of form, skill • It is the process of using our senses and emotions in making creative activities (Marcos, 2010). • It is the human capability of making things beautiful through the production of his/her imagination depending on the preparation, theme, medium, and values used. • Art is created as: • To create beauty • To provide decoration • To reveal truth • To express values • To commemorate experience • To create harmony • And has the following functions: • Individual Function – the artists perform arts because of the passion for their respective art forms. • Social Function – man associates with others through his art performance that arouses social consciousness. • Economic Functions – arts are emerging as a potent force in the economic life of people assumes an essential role as a direct and indirect contributor to state economies. • Political Functions – art provides a forum for ideas that will lead to employment, prestige, status, and power. • Historical Functions – art is an essential technique for information to be recorded and preserved. • Cultural Functions – art is an articulation and transmission of new information and values. • Physical Functions – it serves to protect its occupants and all which reside in it. • Aesthetic Functions – it serves as visual spice for gracefully adorned interiors and can bring out the most elegant features of different décor elements. • What is Creativity? • Creativity – a characteristic of an artist that progressed in the extent of his/her life to express feelings. • An artist’s trait developed in the course of his life to express his feelings. • The primary basis of art. • Why is Creativity Necessary in Art Making? • Creativity is essential in art making as it promotes: • The Creations of Ideas – Artists use their experiences as their basis in the making of dance, picture, a poem, or a play or a song. • The Creations of the Materials – the artist uses different materials or mediums to give form to an idea. • The Creations of Forms – it is a medium of artistic expression recognized as fine art. This form is used to explain the physical nature of the artwork. • When Can You Say that a Person is Creative? • A person is creative when: • They produce a work of art. • They are resourceful. • They express themselves.
