 Defining the “Self”


 Explain how knowing oneself is a way to accept who
one is at present.
 Discuss the personality.
 Develop the ability to write a journal to help know and
understand oneself.
WHO AM
I?
 In philosophical term, it is the
being, which is the source of a
person’s consciousness .
 PERSONALITY- the unique and
relatively enduring states of behaviors,
feelings, thoughts and motives that
characterize an individual.
 A person who is considered as
friendly would at any given
situation, be outgoing and easily
liked by others or is someone who
is not perceived as threatening or
aggressive.
 This consistency through time and
the unique manner by which
thoughts, feelings and behavior are
expressed, defines personality.
 Personality as a pattern of habits,
attitudes, and traits that determine
an individual’s characteristics,
behavior, and traits. (Gordon
Allport)

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
 KATHERINE BRIGGS and ISABEL BRIGGS-MYERS
developed the Myers-Briggs personality model based
on four preferences of individuals. These are:
 E or I (Extraversion or Introversion)
 S or N (Sensing or iNtuition)
 T or F (Thinking or Feeling)
 J or P (Judgment or Perception)
 The main uses of personality tests are to aid in
diagnosing people with problems, counseling, and
making personnel decisions

 Your personality is the combination of
characteristics that makes you different
from every other person with your own
strengths and weaknesses, needs, and
ways of expressing yourself.
 Emotional--related to feelings such as
happiness or sorrow.
 Social--the ways that people relate to
others.
 Intellectual--the cognitive or mental
abilities.
 The way you see yourself, or self-concept, is
influenced by your experiences, by what
people say to you, and by what you say to
yourself. It is important to have a realistic
self-concept because your views of yourself
influence your life in many different ways.
 Your self-concept is the picture you
have of yourself. Your self-esteem is
the value or importance you place on
yourself. If you like yourself and have a
positive self-concept, you will have
high self-esteem
Learn to accept praise.
Focus on your strengths.
Accept yourself as you are.
Learn from your mistakes.
Use your strengths to help
others.
Take responsibility for
your own life.
Your self-concept
and self-esteem
affect every aspect of
your life.
