Correlational Study

between Self-esteem
and Academic
Performance among
PCCr Grade 12 HUMSS
Students
PURPOSE
The researcher aims to:
• identify the relationship between
self-esteem and academic performance of
Grade 12 students
• measure the relationship between
self-esteem and academic performance,
and
• assess how strong/weak the
relationship that exists between
academic performance and self-esteem
BACKGROUND
• self-esteem is how much a person “values, approves
of, appreciates, prizes or likes him or herself”
• inflated self-esteem
• high self-esteem
• low self-esteem
• countries with the highest self-esteem are Serbia,
Chile, Israel, Peru and Estonia.
• countries with the lowest self-esteem are Japan,
Hong Kong, Bangladesh, Czech Republic and Taiwan
• students with high self-esteem “participate
enthusiastically in the learning process” because
they are “more confident, active and motivated
towards learning”
• students with low self-esteem “remain silent,
passive and have a withdrawal attitude towards
learning activities”
METHODS
• Method: The researchers will use survey as
the method.
• Locale: The researchers will conduct their
research at Philippine College of
Criminology, 641 Sales St. Sta. Cruz, Manila.
• Sample: The respondents are Grade 12 HUMSS
Senior High School students.
• Sampling Technique: The researchers will use
convenience sampling as their sampling
technique.
• Sample Size: The researchers will survey 200
respondents.
