RESEARCH TITLE

Effectiveness of the Students’

Preferences in Developing and
Designing Website
INTRODUCTION
In developing and designing a website, a programmer, will
choose what he is more prefer to use, is it with the use of
libraries or by his/her own method. In this study, we will be
able to comprehend what is the best way to develop and design
a website that is fast, readable, compatible and accessible to all
users by measuring twelve (12) selected Computer
Programming students in both grades 11 and 12 in Guipos
National High School.
We came up with this study because we want to measure two
(2) groups, each has six (6) selected members, the first group
uses libraries while the other group relies on their own method
of developing and designing website.

Action Plan
According to…
 Pearson et al, the study they conducted investigated the relative importance of five
design criteria in the evaluation of the usability of an e-commerce site from the
viewport of 178 users.
 Tarafdar and Zhang investigated the influences of six web design issues on the
usability of website using different criteria related to information content, ease of
navigation, download speed, customization and personalization, security, and
availability and accessibility.
 Agarwal and Venkatesh also investigated the relative importance of evaluation
criteria in determining the usability of web sites for two types of user (consumers
and investors) across four industry sectors: online bookstore, automobile
manufacturers, airlines and car rental agencies.
 Pearson et al., the study they conducted investigated the relative importance of
five design criteria in the evaluation of the usability of an e-commerce site from
the viewport of 178 users.
 Zhang et al, similarly investigated user perception regarding the relative
importance of website design features in six different website domains: financial,
e-commerce, entertainment, education, government and medical.
 Zhang and Dran, they alternatively presented a two-factor model that can be used
to distinguish website design factors into two types: namely, hygiene factors and
motivator factors.

 Nielsen (2012), he associated usability with learnability, efficiency, memorability,

errors, and satisfaction.
 Palmer (2002) postulated that usability is determined by download time, navigation, content,
interactivity, and responsiveness.
 DDPL et al (2007), Human Computer Interaction (HCI) is important for the proper development
of websites.
 Van der Heijden (2003), literature suggests that visual attractiveness of a website can
influence whether the site is perceived as useful, enjoyable, and easy to use.
 Nandi et al (2009) concludes their study with the knowledge of conceptual but
comprehensive framework for accessing the quality of interaction in the online discussion
forum.
 Signore (2005), he aimed at defining a quality model and set a characteristics associating
internal and external quality factors and illustrates potential problems which can be accessed
by automated tools.
METHODOLOGY
 RESEARCH DESIGN
This study used survey method and comparative research design. Survey is used to
determine the effectiveness of the students’ preferences in developing and designing
website through identifying which is more effective to use, is it with the use or without the
use of libraries? While on the other hand, comparative is used to compare the two (2) groups
consisting of six (6) selected members each in measuring the effectiveness in their web development
and web design. The first group uses libraries while the other group relies on their own method.

 RESEARCH ENVIRONMENT
This study will be conducted in Guipos National High School, Poblacion Guipos,
Zamboanga del Sur.
Guipos is a 4th class Municipality in the Province of Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines.
According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 20,729 people. It is also politically
subdivided into 17 barangays. The researchers choose this as a venue of the study simply
because the location is accessible and also safe.
 RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS
In this research, the respondents were the selected students of Computer Programming
in both grades 11 and 12 of Guipos National High School totaling in twelve (12) students,
divided into two (2) groups.

 SAMPLING TECHNIQUE
This study used Judgement (or Purposive) Sampling Technique because it is also known
as selective, or subjective sampling. This technique relies on the judgement of the
researcher when choosing who to ask to participate. We, the researchers, may implicitly
choose representatives to all Computer Programming students in both grades 11 and 12 if
who among them has the enough knowledge or are capable of developing and designing a
website with or without the use of libraries.

 RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
The main tool to obtain the exact information was to observe and measure the
respondents’ preferences in developing and designing website – either with or without the
use of libraries that is fast accurate and readable. After that, a self-made questionnaire
checklist will take place to evaluate the respondents’ final output that will be rated by their
Computer Programming Teacher in accordance to what a good website or a webpage should
be.
 DATA ANALYSIS
The following statistical test where used in interpreting the data of this study.
MEAN. This descriptive statistical tool was used in the 4 – point rating scale to determine
the students’ preferences in developing and designing website either with or without the
use of libraries in Guipos High School, Municipality of Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.
Computations was performed by getting the product their weight of scale and the frequency
of each scale divided by the total of respondents.
T-TEST. It is a type of inferential statistics. It is used to determine whether there is a
significant difference between the means of two groups.
Formula:

𝑥ҧ1 − 𝑥ҧ2
𝑡=
(𝑛1 − 1)𝑠𝑛12 1 1
+ 𝑛 +𝑛
𝑛1 +𝑛2 − 2 1 2

This statistical tool was used to analyze the effectiveness of the Computer Programming
students’ preferences in web development and web design in Guipos National High School,
Poblacion Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.
