PROLOGUE
PROLOGUE

• African countries had their frontiers defined by West European


colonists who divided the continent between themselves at the
start of the nineteenth century.
• National identities are difficult to pinpoint, because there are so
many ethnics and tribes in Africa.
• Besides the former colonial languages of English, French, German,
Portuguese and Spanish, there are 20 official languages at
national level in Africa.
• Some prominent Africans have referred to cross-border languages
as a factor that can promote African unity.
SUB SAHARAN AFRICA

• Shepherd Shonhiwa considered the African fundamental


personality traits as non discriminatory, fair, high standards of
morality, hierarchical political ideology, and perpetual
optimism.
• Mutabazi emphasizes the points being considered by Shonhiwa
but adding that cultural models that were being implemented
by the West did not fully replace this African based culture. He
also explains that this culture is being passed on through many
generations.
SOUTH AFRICA, THE RAINBOW
NATION
• Apart from indigeneous black people, there are white Europeans,
Indians, Chinese, and other immigrants from various countries in Asia
• Since the dismantling of the policy of apertheids, South Africa has
confidently promoted its multicultural society and is attempting to
draw diverse ethic, cultural, and religious groups into the social and
economic development of the country.
• In the rural areas traditional values still apply:
The head of the family determines the manner in which business takes place
and the way its carried out
• Those who have moved out to urban areas are subjected to the many
influence of the others living there. At the same time they may well
encounter a professional, top-down managerial style one which is
more task – focused.

MEMBERS OF BRICS
• South Africa has joined into the informal club of developing
countries in 2011
• Jim O’Neill as chairman of Goldman Sachs Asset Management
International said that economy was too small and rate of
growth low, even compared to the rest od Africa
• South Africa will become member of BRIC’s countries and
growth potential in the future will be equal with largest
economies
• South Africa is chosen to becomed a member because of
political
