INRODUCTION
India has always been famous for its rich heritage and ancient culture. India’s glorious past
and cultural diversity make a potent blend which attracts millions of tourists each year to
its heritage tourist attractions.

India's rich heritage is amply reflected in the various temples, palaces, monuments, and forts
that can be found everywhere in the country. This has led to the increase in India's heritage
tourism. The most popular heritage tourism destinations in India are:
• Mandawa castle in Rajasthan
• Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu
• Madurai in Tamil Nadu
• Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh
• Delhi, the Indian capital

economies by providing benefits like new business opportunities, jobs and
higher property values.
• An area that develops its potential for cultural heritage tourism creates new
opportunities for tourists gain an understanding of an unfamiliar place and
people
• Provides increased opportunities for diversified economies – ways to prosper
economically while holding on to the characteristics that makes communities
special

protecting that heritage is essential . So a major challenge is cultural heritage
tourism programs is ensuring that increased tourism does not destroy the very
qualities that attract visitors in the first place.
• A challenge results not only from visitor impact, but also from visitor
expectation of quality products and services. While the possible loss of
authenticity , resulting from attempts to meet the requirements of the market
place , is a serious issue, it must be acknowledged that many sites are well
served by the increased interest in heritage in recent years. Ex. Taj heritage

• As the tourism industry is growing within the global market, India should focus more and more on
the promotional sustainable tourism.
• The Indian government should care and take steps for the restoration of the cultural and ancient
monuments present. They add to our rich art and culture which have the potential to become sites
of tourist attraction.
• To boost tourism and provide quality accommodation services. It is necessary attention is being
given to build high hotel budget rooms for the tourist throughout the country.
• Identify museums in potential tourist circuits , and to make them visitor friendly. Most of the
museums need improvements in basic facility maintenance.
• Utilization of audio visual and other new technologies will generate interest, understanding and
excitement.
