A vending machine is an automated machine that
provides items such as snacks, beverages,
cigarettes and lottery tickets to consumers after
money, a credit card, or a specially designed card is
inserted into the machine.
 The earliest known reference to a vending machine is
in the work of Hero of Alexandria, an engineer and
mathematician in first-century Roman Egypt.
 His machine accepted a coin and then dispensed Holy
Water. When the coin was deposited, it fell upon a pan
attached to a lever.
 The lever opened a valve which let some water flow
out.
 The pan continued to tilt with the weight of the coin
until it fell off, at which point a counterweight snapped
the lever up and turned off the valve
 Coin-operated machines that dispensed tobacco were
being operated as early as 1615 in the taverns of
England.
 The machines were portable and made of brass
 An English bookseller, Richard Carlile, devised a
newspaper dispensing machine for the dissemination
of banned works in 1822.
 Simeon Denham was awarded British Patent no. 706
for his stamp dispensing machine in 1867, the first
fully automatic vending machine
 The first modern coin-operated vending machines
were introduced in London, England in the early
1880s, dispensing postcards
 . The machine was invented by Percival Everitt in 1883
and soon became a widespread feature at railway
stations and post offices,
dispensing envelopes, postcards, and notepapers.
 The Sweetmeat Automatic Delivery Company was
founded in 1887 in England as the first company to
deal primarily with the installation and maintenance
of vending machines. In 1893, Stollwerck.

VENDING MACHINE as an efficient distribution

them in spaces liable to see high footfall from the target

provide companies with the chance to penetrate new
markets without the Hassle of hiring too much labor.
ENHANCED VISIBILITY
companies willing to sell their products through VENDING MACHINE
stand to gain from increased visibility in an already cluttered market.
Hence, the machines not only serve as a distribution unit but also serve
as a display unit.

in addition to just merely offering products for sale, the machines also
serve as an effective advertisement vehicle.

24 HOUR SERVICE
benefit of any human intervention whilst selling, the machines negate
the adverse implications of low productivity as a consequence of
employee leave, holiday or strikes.

GUARANTEED QUALITY
vending machine store quality products in a quality, safe “SECURE
AND HYGIENIC ENVIRONMENT”. This also reduces the chances of
adulteration and duplication that can hurt the prospects and credibility
of the company.
DISADVANTAGES
OF
VENDING MACHINES
 Vending machines require high maintenance
 Vending machines are constantly subjected to
vandalism that may cause the machine to malfunction
or be damaged.
 Machineries are bound to malfunction without regular
maintenance services.
 Regular check on the machines have to be conducted.
 Vending machines requires electricity to function and
the cost of making the products available to consumers
24hours would be very high and costly.
Milk Vender's
This machine can be found decorated to look like a dairy cow. It has 45
selections and a glass front so the customer can see what they are buying.

Cold Food Vending Machine

The cold food vending machine is the machine that will be selling items such
as salads, sandwiches, breakfast items, or meals. These types of items are
precooked and only need to be reheated.

Coffee Vending Machines

Coffee vending is a very profitable segment of the vending industry. There are
two types of machines available in today's market.

Snack Vending Machine

This is a money-maker for the vendor. The rule of thumb is never place a cold
food machine without getting both the snack and soda business.
Over the years there has been several different types of snack vending
machines. Most all vendors are using the glass front machines now.
Soda Vending Machine
 This is probably the one area that machines are evolving into new areas of dispensing
product the most rapidly. These machines can be put into two categories.
 The first would be the soda machine that we have all seen. They are located in almost
every type of account imaginable.
 The second type of machine is what most venders refer to as the glass front. These
machines are similar to the glass front snack machines as you can see what you are about
to purchase.

Frozen Food Vending Machine

 Frozen food vender's are an item that takes the right account to do well. There are
different companies making these machines in a variety of different configurations.
 Some are robotic and some are glass front machines. I have had good results using these
machines filled with ice cream. With enough customers they do well.

Bill Changer
 Every good size account should have a bill changer. Your customers will come to work
with only a larger bill and will need to change it so they can purchase from you.
 The best thing to do for them is to have the bill changer. If you set your vending machines
up to take the larger bills you will constantly be running out of coins. When your
machines run out of coins the use exact change light comes on.

Cigarette vending
 In the past, cigarettes were commonly sold in the United States through these machines,
but this is increasingly rare due to concerns about underage buyers.[
Bulk candy and gumball vending
The profit margins the bulk candy business can be quite
high – gumballs for instance, can be purchased in bulk for
around 2 cents per piece and sold for 25 cents in gumball
machines in the U.S., and other countries. Gumballs and
candy have a relatively long shelf life, enabling vending
machine operators to manage many machines without too
much time or cost involved. In addition, the machines are
typically inexpensive compared to soft drink or snack
machines

Ticket machines
A ticket machine is a vending machine that
produces tickets. For instance, ticket machines
dispense train tickets at railway ,transit tickets at metro
stations and tram tickets at some tram stops and in some
trams
