Today Mr. Jack will be operated and nurse Rosalyn comes to his
room to make sure that everything is ready.
When a post operative patient like jack arrives in the ward, she
is carefully lifted from the stretcher and laid in a specially
prepared bed. The foot of the bed is often raised on wooden
blocks. The patient is placed on his back with his head turned
to one side. As he is generally still unconcious, an artificial
airway is in position and a nurse stays with him to ensure that
his airway is kept clear. She also checks his pulse rate and
volume, his color and the rate and depth of her respiration.
