PERCEPTION CAN BE DEADLY

IF NOT ANALYSED
Perception

To perceive is
• To observe
• To comprehend
• To be aware
Perception Pyramid

The perception pyramid was created by David Armano.

Perception Pyramid
There are two relational cycles in this pyramid:
1. The base is what we think, our ideas and our
thoughts. They form what we say, and help us to
decide what we do. Our behaviours and our
reactions towards other people form as we are
perceived.
2. The second cycle is simply the opposite of the
first one. It all starts with how we are perceived,
and this affects what we do, what we say and
what we think.

Factors Influencing Perception
A number of factors operate to shape and
sometimes distort perception. These factors
can reside in the perceiver, in the object or
target to be perceived or in the context of the
situation in which perception is made
Perception Differs from Person to
Person
Perception Differs from Person to
Person
• Different Viewpoints (ppl emerge from diff
backgrounds/ diff upbringing/ diff
cultures/religions – diff thought process)
• Could result into discussion/conflict (of how a
situation is to b dealt with)
• Could reach a common consensus/
Subordinate accepts decisions of his superior
Perception – Analyze it or be Dead
Perception – Analyze it or be Dead
• Everything is not the way we want it to be
• Not analyzing a Perception may lead to a Wrong
Interpretation
• Possibility of taking a perception negatively
• A negative viewpoint can affect us
• eg,. When a child draws on a wall, either the
parent can scold the child and leave a scar in that
child’s memory or give that child a piece of pencil
and paper and encourage his skill.
Perception – Analyze it or be Dead
Changing Perception
Changing Perception
• Why to change your perception?
• How perception changes?
• Should one rate their perceptions? Why?
• Should we take or depend on another
person’s perception?

Perception & Reality
PERCEPTION & REALITY
“Everything you see or hear or experience in any
way at all is specific to you. You create a
universe by perceiving it, so everything in the
universe you perceive is specific to you.”
– Douglas Adams

Conclusion

4 perspectives
• We should judge every perspective
• Choose the best perspective (possible/ close
to reality)
