• Reflects a narrow span of
management, high supervision
and high degree of
centralization. Those who uses
this leadership style withhold
communication and is
repressive. This is a less
participative leadership.
 ADVANTAGES
• No long discussions
• Members already know
what they need to do
• Things are accomplished
quickly and efficiently
 DISADVANTAGES
• No trust to the employees
• No freedom
• Talents are not recognized
nor promoted
• Resentment
 DEMOCRATIC
• Emphasizes a non pressure
orientation that maximize group
and individual participation in
the decision. There is a free
flow of communication,
decentralized and wide span of
management.
 ADVANTAGES
• Motivating
• Improves self-confidence
• Strengthens relationship
• Freedom of opinion
• Equal rights
 DISADVANTAGES
• Time consuming for the
leader
• Lots of discussions can be
boring
• Difficult for the leader
 FREE REIN (LAISSEZ FAIRE)
• People are presumed to be
motivated in their work without
supervision. The individual with
authority leaves the group and
give little specific directions and
serves as a consultant.
 ADVANTAGES
• Complete freedom for the
employees
• Makes employees
independent
• No burden on the leader
 DISADVANTAGES
• No initiative
• No "WE" feeling
• High possibility of mistakes
• Weaker members are held
back
 TRANSACTIONAL and
TRANSFORMATION LEADERSHIP
• These styles both focus on
how to empower and motivate
the employees for the success
of an organization.
 Transactional leaders:
• Work within the system
 • Want to know the step-by-
step approach for the tasks
• Utilize rewards and
punishments to motivate
followers
 • Make sure everything flows
smoothly
