It provides detailed
information about a
certain topic to particular
group of people .
The information presented
must be based on facts
and supported by credible
sources.
It provides also useful and
interesting information to
the audience.
The goal of informative
speech is to impart
knowledge to the audience
based on his/her expertise.

Persuasive speech attempts to
convince audience by presenting
sound claims, and organizing
information in a coherent manner.
Persuasive speaker uses
facts to inform the
audience about what is
good and what bad.
Characteristic of
Coercion
Persuasion is not coercion
It does not use of force or treats. Persuasion is the process of influencing audience to change his
thoughts or action.
Persuasion often does not happen in an
instant
Changing people’s previously held beliefs takes time
Persuasion is transactional
Being able to persuade the listeners require analysing their background, establishing a common
ground, being sensitive to their needs, and adapting to their feedback.
Modes of persuasion
A persuasive speaker needs to
present a claim or an assertion
that is well – supported by
evidence.
ETHOS
-In his book ARS RHETORICA, ARISTOTLE, - defined ETHOS
as the personal character of the speaker and identified it
as the most effective among the three factors of
persuasion.

- Persuasive speaker is considered to appeal to ETHOS if


they are perceived as an expert in a topic, and if they
trustworthy, dynamic, and likeable.
PATHOS

-the use of PATHOS or EMOTIONAL appeal


is the process of evoking a strong emotion
among your listener to influence them to
change their ideas about something.
LOGOS
- Appeal to logos or logical reasoning. This
means supporting one’s claim with
evidence such as statistical data and facts
taken form expert opinions and credible
research.
ENTERTAINMENT
SPEECH
Presented in a manner that
amuses the audience or
evokes a strong emotion
through the use of humor,
drama, and inspiration.
Entertaining speaker may
simply speak about
personal experience to
inspire an audience.
