Introduction
I was sparked by curiosity of the CVS Health
Company and their support towards creating diversity
and programs they offer for their employees and
suppliers. CVS company is a business I visit often and
is a wide spread company throughout Arizona seen in
every neighborhood.
Thesis: The Federal Civil Rights
Act relates to all employers:

Federal Civil Rights Act
The Federal Civil Rights Act
was passed in 1964 to provide
equal protection by law and to
forbid discrimination for race
and sex in regards to hiring,
promoting, and firing in the
workplace (Simmons, 1). In
addition it also made it against
the law to
refuse/deny/discriminate
against an applicant based on
their, sex, race, color, origin, or
religion (Simmons, 1).
CVS Pharmacy originally opened their first store in 1963, since then the company has expanded with a
tremendous amount of success for over the past 50 years. With over 9800 retail locations opened customers have
access to minute clinics, mental health counselors, and patient services (CVS, at a glance). They have over 246
thousand employees in all 50 states including District of Colombia, Puerto Rico, and Brazil (CVS, At a Glance.
They have an extensive network of operations with pharmacies, hospitals, and medical companies to achieve
their goals to achieve better health of their customers.
Diversity Policies and Code Of
Conduct at CVS Health
• CVS Health Company labels
themselves as equal opportunity
employers with working in an
environment free of all types of
discrimination.
• CVS Health explains that their
workforce is committed to respecting
one another, discrimination free
environments, and in compliance with
the American Disabilities Act (CVS
code of conduct, 17).
• On the right we see a list from their
manual on their Non-Discrimination
policies and examples of harassment
they do not tolerate (CVS code of
conduct, 17).
Diversity Programs at CVS Health
• Programs include the following:

• Equal opportunity- staying true to the policy to recruit,


hire, and promote best practices for best people for job and
against any discrimination (CVS, Employee and Consumer
Rights).

• Supplier Diversity-striving to work with diverse supplier


teams and create an atmosphere to create more jobs for
diverse individuals(CVS, Supplier Diversity).

• Veteran support-which hires and assists military


individuals who are in need (CVS, Veterans).

• Workforce programs- which assist in providing


employment services and help community organization to
hire people of divers backgrounds ( CVS Health, Workforce
Initiatives).

• Multicultural products and services- CVS commits serving


their multicultural customers by providing special products
as needs based on cultural backgrounds (CVS,
Multicultural products and Services).

Employees: Part 1
• CVS Health is one of the companies that scored 100 percent on the Disability Equality Index: best
place to work for disability inclusion companies list (Gattuso, 1).

• CVS is committed to people with disabilities finding meaningful employment and help train and
assist them with life and job skills in the workplaces (Gattuso,1)

Employees: Part 2
• In an article by University Wire it explains the ongoing commitment to support diverse
suppliers by teaming up with Roger Williams University's School of Continuing Studies. They
offer registration for the CVS Health Executive Learning Series for diverse supplies which
help diverse business owners grow (University Wire, 1).

• The Training program that CVS Health has collaborated with is in its 4th year and is a staple
for their company with supplier diversity (University Wire, 1)

• Working with small businesses CVS grows their diverse cliental as wells as business
partners. They realize that small businesses working with larger companies can be
challenging and want to strengthen the community by providing their support.

• The article concludes that CVS health will be collaborating in the future with Roger Williams
university for workforce and professional development in there other councils such as
Women’s Business Enterprise National Council, National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of
Commerce, National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, and various other diverse
associations

Employees: Part 3
• Target News Service Released an article in 2013 in regard to CVS health and their efforts to
provide employment and career mentioning for women veterans and military families.

• CVS health provided this program to help assist woman helping women by providing women
employee volunteers to mentor female veterans to help build self confidence and grow their
own businesses ( Targeted News Services, 1).

• With joining forces with Business and Professional Women's Foundation's Joining Forces
Mentoring Plus(TM) program it is providing support for many woman in need. This support
helps and transform them with providing career guidance to support their families for the
future (Targeted News Services, 1).
Conclusion
I conclude that the CVS health company is in support
of inclusion and diversity with no tolerance for
discrimination in the workplace. They offer a multitude
of support and outreach programs for their diverse
employees as well as the diverse communities they
conduct business with. The CVS Heath company is
committed to having diversity shine with their
business as well as their suppliers that they manager
and recruit.
