What does it mean to be green? "Green" is more than just a color. It also means takingspeci
al steps to protect the environment -
the water, the land, and the air we breathe. Why green? Plants are green, and without them t
he Earth wouldn't be such a lovelyhome for us human beings.
Every day, people make choices that affect the amount of trash and pollution that getsprodu
ced in our world. What can you do? A whole lot, actually. Here's a four-
step guideto being green:
1.Reduce the amount of stuff you use and throw away.
2.Reuse stuff when you can.
3.Recycle cans, bottles, paper, books, and even toys.
4.Enjoy the Earth -
walk in the woods, plant a tree, and eat some of the deliciousfood it produces.

WHAT’S A TERRARIUM?

 A terrarium (plural: terraria or terr

ariums) is usually a sealable glass
container containing soil and
plants, and can be opened for
maintenance to access the plants
inside. However, terraria can also
be open to the atmosphere rather
than being sealed.
z

 Terraria are often kept as

decorative or ornamental
items.

 Closed terraria create a

unique environment for
plant growth, as the
transparent walls allow
for both heat and light to
enter the terrarium.
z
WATER CYCLE IN A TERRARIUM

 The sealed container combined with the heat entering the

terrarium allows for the creation of a small scale water cycle.
z This happens because moisture from both the soil and plants
evaporates in the elevated temperatures inside the terrarium. This
water vapour then condenses on the walls of the container, and
eventually falls back to the plants and soil below. This contributes
to creating an ideal environment for growing plants due to the
constant supply of water, thereby preventing the plants from
becoming over dry. In addition to this, the light that passes
through the transparent material of the terrarium allows for the
plants within to photosynthesize, a very important aspect of plant
growth.

Succulents

 In botany, succulent plants, also known as succulents, are plants that

have some parts that are more than normally thickened and fleshy, usually
to retain water in aridclimates or soil conditions. The word "succulent" comes
from the Latin word sucus, meaning juice, or sap.[1] Succulent plants may
store water in various structures, such as leaves and stems.

A question I get asked frequently is, what are succulents? While succulents are
increasing in popularity, many people are still unaware of these amazing plants.
Hopefully this will give you a better understanding of what succulents
are. Succulents are a group of plants that store water in their leaves. The leaves tend
to be thick and fleshy, but some genus and species have thicker leaves than
others. Succulents tend to thrive in dry climates and don’t like a lot of humidity. As
with any other plant, proper watering will ensure the best growth and flowering. While
they do need water to survive, they can endure extended periods of drought, relying
on the stored water and nutrients in their leaves. If their roots are sitting in water for
too long they will start to rot and die.

How to reproduce succulents?
One of the amazing qualities of succulents is their ability to propagate easily.
z
PROPAGATING SUCCULENTS

 Succulents reporduce
by propagation. You
can take a new tiny
plant from a single
leave.
z

 You can take a single leave from a

succulent. Then you put it on dry
soil. Wait for some days and roots
start growing. Finally a new tiny
plant is born.
z
CUTTTING SUCCULENTS

 Succulents reporduce by cutting their head off. Then you can plant the
new head into the soil. Days later new roots start growing and a new
tiny plant is born.
