You are to write an opening story about this character,

1. How would you introduce the character?
2. What would be the setting?
SUCCESS? Level 7: I use different sentence types to show the
purpose of my writing and to achieve my desired
effect. I rarely make mistakes. My vocabulary is
consistently, often imaginatively, well matched to
my purpose and audience.

Level 6: I can use simple and complex sentences in

my writing to show my purpose and achieve an
effect on my reader. I can start my sentences with –
ly and –ing words. I choose vocabulary which is
generally appropriate to my purpose and audience.

Level 5: I can use simple and complex sentences

in my writing to make my ideas clear. I regularly
use connectives in my work to show the
relationship between my ideas. I choose my
vocabulary to have an effect on my reader.

Level 4: I can use some types of connectives in my

writing: e.g. if, when, because. My writing shows some
evidence of deliberate vocabulary choices. I try to use
new vocabulary to match my topic.
AN OPENING PARAGRAPH
Unbeknownst to the people of Capua, lived a winged
creature in their forbidden forest that laid over the
other end of King Stefan’s kingdom. Inhibited, pitch
dark, eerie, it entwined with. Hence, it was a no-man
land. She was well-known with the name of
Maleficent; a daunted soul who was intimidated in
the entire forest yet in her, lived a heart that could
resurrect the death to an excitable eternal life: a
heart as pure as white snow. Her kindness always
became the talk of all the mortals in the forest
despite the visage that nobody dared to gaze upon.
Therefore, She was regarded by the nature as the
guardian of the forest – emotionally connected.
