ENERGY AND

ENVIRONMENTAL
ENGINEERING
OBJECTIVES
In the end of this presentation, the
students will able to:
• To know the difference between energy
and environmental engineering
• To understand the responsibilities and
duties of the two in the engineering field
• To know the requirements for being an
energy and environmental engineering
and to know its salary

2
DIFFERENCE OF
Energy and Environmental
Engineering

3
ENERGY ENGINEERING
4
• -It deals with sustainable development in terms of
energy usage .
ENERGY • -it is mainly with switching energy production from
depleting resources to alternative sources (Renewable
ENGINEERING Sources).
• -is a broad field of engineering that encapsulates
energy management, energy efficiency, renewable 5
energy, and environmental maintenance.
ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING
• branch of engineering that focuses on protecting
the environment by reducing waste and pollution.
ENVIRONMENTAL • The field is also dedicated to improving
environmental conditions through remediation.
ENGINEERING • It deals with the design of technologies and
processes that control pollution releases and clean
up existing contamination.
THE RESPONSIBILITES
OF
Energy and Environmental
Engineering
Energy Engineer
• -works across the full energy
lifecycle, including extraction,
production, conversion, transmission
and distribution, and play an integral
role in processing energy from a
variety of sources, e.g. solar, wind
and geothermal power ,nuclear
power, water, oil, gas and biofuel’s.
DUTIES OF AN
ENERGY ENGINEER
• Participate in design, development and building of renewable
energy technologies.
• Manage integration of renewable energy generation into
existing power systems.
• Negotiate service agreements and manage associated costs
and revenues
• Research and explain greenhouse gas reduction
opportunities.
• Search and present energy conservation projects comprising
capital and operational measures.
• Verify installation of energy efficiency measures working on
field inspections.
• Revise engineering design drawings, specifications and
reports to validate energy savings.
RENEWABLE ENERGY
Renewable energy is energy that is
collected from renewable resources,
which are naturally replenished on a
human timescale, such as sunlight, wind,
rain, tides, waves, and geothermal heat.
SOLAR
POWER
• Solar power is the
conversion of energy from
sunlight into electricity,
either directly using
photovoltaics (is the
conversion of light into
electricity) , indirectly using
concentrated solar power,
or a combination.
WIND POWER
• Wind energy (or wind power)
refers to the process of creating
electricity using the wind, or air
flows that occur naturally in the
earth's atmosphere.
Modern wind turbines are used
to capture kinetic energy from
the wind and generate
electricity.
• Nuclear power is the use of nuclear reactions that
release nuclear energy to generate heat, which most
NUCLEAR POWER frequently is then used in steam turbines to produce
electricity in a nuclear power plant. Nuclear power can
be obtained from nuclear fission, nuclear decay and
nuclear fusion reactions
ENVIRONMENTAL
ENGINEER
• -Environmental engineers work
in a variety of settings because of
the nature of the tasks they do.
• -When they are working with
other engineers and urban and
regional planners, environmental
engineers are likely to be in
offices.
• -When they are carrying out
solutions through construction
projects, they are likely to be at
construction sites.
DUTIES OF AN ENVIRONMENTAL
ENGINEER
• Prepare, review, and update environmental
investigation reports
• Design projects that lead to environmental
protection, such as water reclamation facilities
or air pollution control systems
• Obtain, update, and maintain plans, permits,
and standard operating procedures
• Provide technical support for environmental
remediation projects and for legal actions
• Analyze scientific data and do quality-control
checks
• Monitor the progress of environmental
improvement programs
• Inspect industrial and municipal facilities and
programs in order to ensure compliance with
environmental regulations

• Employers also value
practical experience.
Therefore, cooperative
engineering programs, in
which college credit is
awarded for structured
Career Requirements at a Glace job experience, are
valuable as well.
