MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY

Medicinal chemistry is a stimulating field as it

links many scientific disciplines and allows for
collaboration with other scientists in researching and
developing new drugs.
IMPORTANCE OF FIRST AID KIT

First aid kits are necessary so that you can treat

ailments and injuries that happen at home. From the
minor ailment to the more serious injury a first aid
kit can help reduce the risk of infection or the
severity of the injury.
PURPOSE OF FIRST AID KIT

First aid is emergency care given immediately

to an injured person. The purpose of first aid is to
minimize injury and future disability. In serious
cases, first aid may be necessary to keep the victim
alive.
FIRST AID KIT MAY CONTAIN THESE ITEMS:

• Isopropyl alcohol is a
compound with the chemical
formula CH₃CHOHCH₃.
• It is a colorless, flammable
chemical compound with a
strong odor.
 HYDROGEN
PEROXIDE
Hydrogen peroxide is a
chemical compound with the
formula H ₂O ₂. In its pure
form, it is a pale blue, clear
liquid, slightly more viscous
than water. Hydrogen
peroxide is the simplest
peroxide. It is used as an
oxidizer, bleaching agent and
antiseptic.
 POVIDONE-IODINE
• Povidone-iodine is an antiseptic
used for skin disinfection
before and after surgery. It may
be used both to disinfect the
skin of the patient and the
hands of the healthcare
providers.
• Chemical Formula: C6H9I2NO
• Benzalkonium chloride is a type of cationic
surfactant. It is an organic salt classified as a
quaternary ammonium compound. It has
three main categories of use: as a biocide, a
cationic surfactant, and as a phase transfer
agent.
• Chemical Formula: C6H5CH2N(CH3)2RCl

Yellow Lotion is an antiseptic astringent

wound lotion which provides effective
first aid treatment for burns girth galls
inflamed bruise and sprains in addition
to abrasions open wounds and proud
flesh.
 Liniment is a liquid or
lotion, especially one made
with oil, for rubbing on the
body to relieve pain.

A dressing is a sterile pad or

compress applied to a wound to
promote healing and protect the
wound from further harm. A
dressing is designed to be in
direct contact with the wound,
as distinguished from a bandage,
which is most often used to hold
a dressing in place. Many modern
dressings are self-adhesive.
 A self-adhering bandage or
cohesive bandage is a type of
bandage or wrap that coheres
to itself, but does not adhere
well to other surfaces.
A triangular bandage is used as
an arm sling or as a pad to control
bleeding. It may also be used to
support or immobilize an injury to
a bone or joint or as improvised
padding over a painful injury.
A pocket mask, or pocket face
mask or CPR mask, is a device
used to safely deliver rescue
breaths during a cardiac arrest
or respiratory arrest.
The most common use of
scissors is for cutting gauze
and sometimes even adhesive
bandages to an appropriate
length.
Safety pins: These can be
used to fix bandages.

Tweezers are an important tool to

have in any first aid kit regardless of
how basic your kit is. Tweezers can
be used to remove debris such as
glass, dirt, or splinters from a wound.
They can also be used to remove
stingers left behind by bees.
 Calcium carbonate is a strong and
fast-acting antacid, and it's been used
since the first century. Antacids that
contain calcium carbonate may work
longer than those containing sodium
bicarbonate or magnesium.

medication used to decrease the
frequency of diarrhea.

drug class that is used for treating
pain, fever, and inflammation.
