WHAT IS AN APPLICATION?
• An app is a type of software that allows you to
perform specific tasks.
• although applications for desktop or laptop
computers are sometimes called desktop
applications or programs while those for mobile
device are called mobile apps all of these are
software that enduser use for a certain tasks.
• There are countless desktop
applications, and they fall into several
categories. Some are more full featured
(like Microsoft Word), while others may
only do one or two things (like a clock or
calendar app).
 1) Word Processors
• A word processors allows you to
write a letter, design a flyer, and
create many other types of
documents. Word processors can be
used to create multiple types of files,
including text files (.txt), Rich text files
(.rtf), HTML files (.htm & .html), and
word files (.doc & .docx).
• It is made up of rows and
columns that help sort data,
arrange data easily, calculate
numerical data. What makes a
spreadsheet application unique
is its ability to calculate values
using mathematical formulas
and the data in cells.
• An application used to locate,
retrieve and display content on
the World Wide Web, including
Web pages, images, video and
other files. As a client/server
model, the browser is the client
run on a computer that
contacts the Web server and
requests information.
• If you want to listen to
MP3s or watch movies
you’ve downloaded, you’ll
need to use media
player. Windows Media
Player and iTunes are
popular media players.
• There are many types of
games you can play on your
computer. They range from
card games like Solitaire to
action games like Halo. Many
action games require a lot of
computing power, so they may
not work unless you have a
sophisticated computer
hardware.
• Desktop and Laptop computers are
not the only devices that can run
applications. You can also download
apps for mobile devices like
smartphones and tablets.

with GPS support and

information and user-

route details.
