• Folk songs are songs written by the folk and are sung to

accompany daily activities such as farming, fishing, and putting


the baby to sleep.
• Folk song is also known as an indigenous or traditional music.
• Most Philippine folk songs have Spanish and other Western
influences.
• The people created melodic chants and indigenous instruments
based on the materials available where they lived.
• The folk songs of Luzon lowlands are performed in his/her

Manang Biday is a serenade type of song, about courtship and
love. In it, a young man asked the lady he loves to open her
window and look down at him, because he is singing a love song
for her. It shows the cultural aspects of showing your love to a
woman in a respectful way. The title “Manang Biday” is the
woman's name in the song.

ATIN CU PUNG SING SING
the song basically tells the story of a lady who lost her ring given
by her mother. The composer is unkown.

The Sarung Banggi song is composed by Potenciano Gregorio. It
means “one night or one evening”

It recalls the finding of the Holy Cross by Queen Helene

found in Jerusalem, it was brought back to Rome, where
there was joyful celebration for thanksgiving.
Where it is held?
In the Bicol region, (especially in Barangay Sabang in
Naga City), it is held every Wednesday and Saturday
of May.
The ritual is started with the rosary, with every decade
followed by Spanish Marian songs, Nine day novena,
The Sagala, Pageant on the last day of Flores de Mayo
and Procession of “queens” (ex. Reyna Elena, Reyna ng
Sába, Reyna Móra)
