Lotte World Tower

Tourists walking around the Gangnam area will

easily notice a single building standing taller than
the rest; this silver monolith is none other
than Lotte World Tower. For years, Lotte
World amusement park has been a popular
attraction among locals and tourists alike. With
the construction of Lotte World Tower & Mall, the
area has become a paradise for all things
entertainment and culture. The 123-story tower
includes shops, theaters, offices, and a hotel, as
well as the 555 meter-high observatory Seoul
Sky, opened on April 3, 2017.

There are many observatories in the city, but

none gives quite the same experience as what
can be found at Seoul Sky. Even Seoulites are
taking the ride up in the Sky Shuttle to enjoy the
outstanding views of the city and the feeling of
walking on clouds.
One World Trade Center
On Nov. 3, 2014, the Skyscraper known as One World Trade Center (One WTC; formerly referred to as the Freedom Tower) in New York City officially
opened its doors. The completion of the gleaming 541.3-m (1,776-ft) iconic building marked both the culmination of a long and painful chapter in New York
City’s history following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and the focal point of the renewal and reinvention of Lower Manhattan that had taken place in
the 13 years since the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center were destroyed by hijacked airliners. One WTC’s position at the northwest corner
of Ground Zero—adjacent to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum (completed in 2011 and 2014, respectively) and the massive pools set within
the footprints of the original Twin Towers that make up the World Trade Center Memorial—follows the master plan developed by architect Daniel
Libeskind for the 6.5-ha (16-ac) site in his 2003 competition-winning scheme. The final design for the building—which underwent several iterations over the
past decade—was developed by the New York office of the architecture firm of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM). The tower’s iconic 1,776-ft height
(coinciding with the year that the Declaration of Independence was signed) is, aside from the position of the building, the only element that remains from
Libeskind’s original concept.
CTC Finance Center
The development has 66 office floors, 23 serviced apartment floors, 11 hotel floors, a ballroom and meeting rooms. A retail mall is located in the podium
with top brand name shopping facilities as well as high quality restaurants and dining outlets. In addition, there is a three-story car park providing
approximately 1,700 parking spaces.
WSP provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) consultancy for the project, which consisted of the overall design, tender stage support and
construction stage coordination. MEP systems included HVAC systems, power supply and distribution system, fire services system and smoke control
system, plumbing and drainage system, security, surveillance, audio and visual, telephone and telecommunication system among others.
WSP was also responsible for the LEED consultancy and the design of the buildings vertical transportation systems which stand out as one of the world’s
fastest vertical transportation system that is capable of reaching speeds of 72 km/h (20 m/s).
CTF Tianjin Tower
Located in the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA) in the outer district of Tianjin, the Tianjin Chow Tai Fook Binhai Center, is a 530-meter mixed
use tower. With a 389,980 sq. GFA spanning 96 floors above ground and 4 floors below ground, it will have 81 elevators to provide access for the occupants. The tower
will include 300 units of serviced apartments, and a 350-room five-star hotel. Designed by US based architects SOM, the tower features strategically placed, multistory
wind vents combined with the tower's aerodynamic shape reduce vortex shedding, which in turn dramatically minimizes wind forces. Having already been recognized as
the Best Chinese Future Mega Project: Silver, by MIPIM Asia in 2015, the skyscraper is also been designed to LEED® Gold standards. Sustainable strategies include a
high-performance envelope, optimized day lighting, and green landscaping. WSP is serving as the MEP and Vertical Transport System consultant engineer on this
prestigious project and have introduced cutting-edge, energy-efficient systems to make this one of the most sustainable buildings in the region. The most challenging
aspect when designing the services for this tall building is the shape. Tianjin Chow Tai Fook Finance Center is a very slender tower and by the time you reach the top, the
whole building shrinks like a bowling pin. At the top levels, the floor plate is smaller than the lower floors with the core only around 19 sq.. The upper floors lend themselves
to hotel accommodation rather than offices, but the challenge is how to fit in the hotel lobby and the considerable vertical transportation requirements – at the point where
the core is at its thinnest? The solution was to locate the hotel lobby below the service apartments whilst the hotel is located on the upper floors. The core is shaped like
two square tubes, one inside the other. The inner part of the core runs the full height of the building and contains all the building systems, local lift shafts and the fire
escape stairs. The outer part of the core contains the shuttle elevators: The outer core stops at the hotel lobby level and the serviced apartments and hotel floors are
served by the much smaller central core.
Zhongguo Zun
The super tall Beijing CBD Z15 development “CITIC Tower” with 528m high stands in the heart of Beijing’s Central Business District and is earmarked as the capital city’s
tallest building. CITIC Tower occupies total building GFA of approx. 437,000 sq. with aboveground GFA of around 350,000 sq. and belowground GFA of around 87,000
sq.. The development provides around 332,000 sq. Grade A Office Facilities with target customers from banking, financial and e-commerce institutions. At the top zone
floors, there are F&B outlets, conference room facilities, and a grand Observation Deck at around 500m aboveground, where people can enjoy fantastic view of Beijing
city. There are 7nos. belowground story mainly serve for car park and Back-of-House facilities. CITIC Tower is destined to become China’s landmark building and also a
benchmark for green building design in the business & commerce sector. The development provides effective and efficient M&E systems, sustainability features and
vertical transportation systems of international standard. For effective transportation of large amount of people to the Observation Deck at around 500m aboveground, the
development provides high speed large capacity double deck elevators. Featuring the latest sustainable technology, materials and engineering concepts to date, the
design incorporates ice thermal storage, free cooling, fresh air control, variable flow control, energy efficient lighting, waste heat reclaim and rainwater recycling features.
When compare with tall building of its kind, CITIC Tower enjoys much more benefits of energy saving and sustainability. WSP provides comprehensive MEP consultancy
services from concept design to preliminary design stages in order to encompass the implementation of cutting-edge energy-saving MEP systems and advanced vertical
transportation technologies. During the subsequent construction drawings and construction, we will also provide technical expertise support and design checking to ensure
that the MEP construction drawings (prepared by local design institutes) are in line with the original design intent and quality requirements.
Xi An Glory International Financial Center
Schindler is to provide 54 elevators and escalators for Glory・Xi’an International Finance Center, the tallest building under construction in
Northwestern China. Among them, 33 are Schindler 7000 high-rise elevators. Invested by Guorui Properties at 3 billion RMB, Glory・Xi’an
International Finance Center is the No.1 international grade A office building. Standing tall on Jinye Road in the center of CBD, surpassing
all other skyscapers in the city’s skyline, the building is refreshing the record of the modern office building market in Xi’an. With a total
surface area of 289,978 square meters and 75 floors, the building integrates grade A offices, business and finance, culture and technology,
business and leisure, and is without doubt a peak in Xi’an and a city landmark in the Northwestern area. In May 2016, Schindler provided 24
elevators and escalators, including 16 Schindler 7000 high-rise elevators, to Block B of Xi’an Greenland Center, the current tallest building
in the Northwest. The project was also the first time when Schindler applied PORT technology in the Northwest. With the new project with
Glory・Xi’an International Finance Center, as well as projects with landmark buildings including China Railway Xi’an Center, Shaanxi
Yanchang Petroleum Scientific Research Center, and Greenland Center Block B, Schindler’s elevators and escalators have become a
scenic view in high-rise buildings in Xi’an Hi-Tech Industries Development Zone.
Tuntex Sky Tower
85 Sky Tower, formerly known as the T & C Tower or Tuntex Sky Tower is an 85-story skyscraper located in Lingya District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The
structure is 347.5 m (1,140 ft) high. An antenna increases the pinnacle height to 378 m (1,240 ft). Constructed from 1994 to 1997, it is the tallest
skyscraper in Kaohsiung, and was the tallest in Taiwan until the completion of Taipei 101 in 2004. There is no 44th floor in the building the 43rd floor
connects directly to the 45th floor. The pyramid shaped crown is the equivalent of 3 stories high and hence marketed as 83-85 to arrive at a round number.
There is no elevator access to floors above 80. The building was designed by C.Y. Lee & Partners and Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum, and has an
unusual 'prong' design with two separate 39-floor sections, which merge into a single central tower rising to a spire. This unique design leaves a
substantial space below the central part of the tower. The design was inspired by the first Kanji and Chinese character of the city's name (changed
to Takao during Japanese rule). John W. Milton was Project Director on behalf of Turner International Inc (New York), a subsidiary of Turner Construction.
The building was owned by the now defunct Tuntex Group, and is mainly offices, but includes residential space, a department store and the 85 Sky Tower
Hotel occupies the 38th to 70th floors. An observation deck on the 74th floor offers views over the Kaohsiung City, the Love River and the Kaohsiung
Harbour, and is accessed by high speed elevators, capable of speeds of 10.17 m/s.
Shimao Hunan Center
Shimao International Plaza is a 333.3 m (1,094 ft) tall skyscraper of 60 stories in Shanghai's Huangpu District. It was
completed in 2006 under the design of Ingenhoven, Overdiek und Partner, East China Architecture and Design
Institute.
Shimao International Plaza has two spires on its top, which make its total construction height to 333.3 metres. Most of
the building (the upper 48 floors) houses the Le Royal Méridien Shanghai hotel with 770 rooms. The building also
includes a 9 floor shopping mall and 3 floors of exclusive clubs.
Shanghai Shimao Group bought the original developer of the tower, Wan Xiang Group, in 2001 and the name of the
building was changed.
Aon center
Chicago’s battle for observation deck supremacy could turn into a three-way fight if the owners of the Aon Center get approval to build a
1000-foot-long glass elevator to brings tourists to new attractions slated for the tower’s 82nd and 83rd floors. The proposal, which was
publicly unveiled Monday evening, would see Aon’s observatory go head to head against the Skydeck of Willis Tower and the 360 Chicago
observatory at 875 N. Michigan Avenue, formerly the Hancock Center. From here, guests would move below street level, clear security, and
travel diagonally across the site to its northwest corner to board a pair of double-decker elevators enclosed in a glass shaft attached to the
stone tower’s exterior. The orientation of the elevators minimizes their visual impact from the park and the lakefront.
Described by its designers as one of—if not the—tallest glass-walled elevators in the world, the 1200-foot-per-minute lift not only provides a
thrilling ride for its occupants but also side-steps the tower’s existing elevator system, which is currently running at full capacity. The new
elevator’s mechanical overrun will extend beyond Aon’s roof, bumping overall height from 1,117 to 1,136 feet.

stagnation in the real estate sector.
Xiamen International Center
Xiamen International Centre is a skyscraper under construction in Xiamen, China. The tower was topped out
in April 2016, and the building is expected to be completed in 2019.
The location of Xiamen International Center was formerly China Post & Telecommunication Tower, a planned
342-meter tall office building with telecommunication tower on top. The project began construction in 1996 but
was halted at podium level due to a financial situation within China Post. The current building began
construction in 2014, and is expected to be completed in September 2017.
From 2016 to present, Xiamen International Center has been the tallest building in the city of Xiamen, as well
as tallest in the Haixi Metropolitan Area.
875 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago,
built as and still commonly referred to as the John Hancock Center, 100 stories. When the building topped out on May 6, 1968,[1] it was the
second-tallest building in the world and the tallest outside New York City.It is currently the fourth-tallest building in Chicago and the eighth-
tallest in the United States, after One World Trade Center, the Willis Tower, 432 Park Avenue, the Trump Tower Chicago, the Empire State
Building, the Bank of America Tower, and the Aon Center. When measured to the top of its antenna masts, it stands at 1,500 feet (457
m).[8] The building is home to several offices and restaurants, as well as about 700 condominiums. It also contains the third-highest
residence in the world, after the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and the Trump Tower in Chicago.[9] The building was named faor John Hancock
Mutual Life Insurance Company, a developer and original tenant of the building.[citation needed] On February 12, 2018, John Hancock
Insurance requested that its name and logos throughout the building’s interior be removed immediately.[10]“ From the 95th floor restaurant,
diners can look out at Chicago and Lake Michigan. The Observatory (360 Chicago),[11] which competes with the Willis Tower's Skydeck,
has a 360° view of the city, up to four states, and a distance of over 80 miles (130 km). The Observatory has Chicago's only open-air
SkyWalk and also features a free multimedia tour in six languages.[12] The 44th-floor sky lobby features America's highest indoor swimming
pool.[13]"

Four Seasons Place
This much awaited 65-storey, 320m-high tower is being built right next to the Petronas Twin Towers and costs a huge RM2.5 billion. It is a
mixed commercial and residential building that comprises a hotel, apartments and a mall, and also will be the world's tallest Four Seasons
development. It is developed by Ipoh-born Singapore tycoon, Ong Beng Seng, partnering Tan Sri Syed Yusof Tun Syed Nasir and the
Sultan of Selangor.
The 1.05ha building site of Four Seasons Place is located in between Wisma Central and Maxis Tower, which acquired by Venus Assets for
RM90 million on 2003 from the late Khoo Teck Puat, a former major shareholder of Standard Chartered Plc. This latest skyscraper has
begun its construction works since December 2008 and due to a few changes in the design, there was a pause in the project previously. It
was supposed to be a two-tower development, but now it turns into a single 65-storey tower.
Four Seasons Place will house a total of 150,000 sf of retail mall, a hotel that consists of 150 hotel rooms and 100 serviced apartments, and
140 residential apartments. The retail mall is an extension of Suria KLCC. The 5-star hotel will be managed by the renowned Four Seasons
Hotels and Resorts, Canada. Meanwhile, the condominium unit sizes will comprise from 3,000 sf, and going to be sold for RM2,500 psf to
RM3,000 psf.
Comcast Innovation & Technology Center
The Four Seasons Hotel will be located on the upper floors of the new Comcast Innovation and Technology Center in the heart of Center City Philadelphia.
There will be event spaces, meeting rooms, a banquet hall, and other hotel amenities on the lower floors, while the guest rooms and another full slate of
amenity spaces will occupy the top floors of the building. With this unique configuration, issues of privacy, controlling noise, and isolating mechanical noise
and vibration are a chief concern. There will be a pool and fitness center as part of the full complement of amenities on the upper floors of the building, as
well as another restaurant and bar, a salon, and a full-service spa. All of these spaces will house functions that generate noise and vibration which must be
isolated from the guest rooms nearby.
Our involvement in this project will continue until the building is finished. We have conducted numerous site visits to monitor the construction and to make
sure that all of the sound isolation methods required by the Four Seasons are being implemented during construction. During our inspections, we
occasionally come across conditions which do not meet the necessary criteria for limiting sound transmission between rooms or isolating noise from the
mechanical systems. We provide reports documenting our discoveries and follow up during subsequent site visits to make sure issues are being resolved
which will make this building perform acoustically as promised. Another major portion of our involvement in this project is the A/V and technology
integration. We are working on the voice, data, wireless infrastructure, and network integration systems throughout the building which will also continue
until the end of construction.
One Shenzhen Bay 7
One Shenzhen Bay is a vibrant, mixed-use development that integrates with the fabric of Houhai, reflecting the district’s natural beauty and
favorable climate through a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces.
The complex includes six high-end residential towers, one office tower and a 338-meter central tower comprising offices, serviced
apartments and a Raffles hotel. Although distinct in program, the eight towers are designed to appear and function as a singular, cohesive
entity. Low-iron glass serves as the main cladding material while solid horizontal stone spandrels are applied to all towers to unify the
exterior wall appearance. The gentle, horizontal angles of the tower balconies mimic the soft waves of the bay, while vertical fin elements
provide shading and enhance the privacy of bedrooms in the residential towers. The layout and appearance of One Shenzhen Bay serves
as a bridge between the rolling coastline of the bay and the energetic bustle of the Houhai District. One of China’s most successful
residential developments, the complex provides residents with a modern living environment in close proximity to work, shopping, and
recreational opportunities.

Tianjin Global Financial Center
Tianjin Global Financial Center, located in the historic heart of Tianjin, embodies the city’s international
prominence as a physical and cultural gateway to China. Across the Hai River from Tianjin’s high-speed rail
and transit hub, the 337-meter tower marks the city center and provides an iconic visual point of reference.
The tower extends the existing riverfront promenade to create a compact and walkable downtown, as well as
a modern identity for the city.
Tianjin Global Financial Center’s structural framework is uniquely slender for a region with high wind loads.
The innovative application of steel plate shear walls reduced material usage by 20 to 25 percent over more
conventional structural steel systems.
The tower’s uniquely pleated glass exterior catches light and an observation deck and sky restaurant at the
top floors provide public access to a 360-degree view of the city.
Keangnam Hanoi Landmark Tower
In 2010, Bitexco Financial Tower in HCM City was recognized as Vietnam's tallest tower. However, it was usurped by the 72-storey, 336m
Keangnam Hanoi Landmark Tower. Keangnam Group spent about $1 billion to build the tower, to serve office, housing, and commercial
centers. Lotte Center Hanoi Tower is also noted for its huge investment. With 65 floors and a height of 267 meters, Lotte Center Hanoi is
considered the second highest tower in Vietnam and the second tallest in the North. About 7m shorter than Keangnam Hanoi Landmark
Tower, the Lotte Center Hanoi’s construction cost was less. The Korean investors spent about $500 million on this work. Keangnam Hanoi
Landmark Tower is Vietnam's tallest tower, but this title has been given several times to other works. The first is the PVN tower. In 2011, the
Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) announced to build PVN Tower, the tallest building in Vietnam and the second highest in Asia.
The building will be a complex of offices, apartments and shopping centers. The project is expected to commence in early 2011 and be
completed after 2.5 - 3 years. However, after four years this project has not been implemented. The estimated funding for this work is up to
$1.2 billion. The building was recently proposed to lower the height to 79 floors and cut investment cost to $600 million, with a new name
and new investor. Most recently, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee granted an investment licence to the Empire City project worth
$1.2 billion inside Thu Thiem urban zone. Covering 14.5 hectares, the complex will include a trade centre, five-star hotel, office building,
apartment building and underground parking lot. The highlight of the project will be an 86-storey skyscraper, developed to be an observatory
tower and the tallest building of Vietnam.
Twin Towers Guiyang, West Tower
Nowhere in China is the disparity between economic reality and architectural ambition more stark than in
Guiyang, capital of rural Guizhou, the poorest province in the country, which has the fifth most skyscraper
plans of any Chinese city. The twin 335-metre towers of the Huaguoyuan development, by Arup, are now
almost complete, standing as the centrepiece of a new mixed-use office, retail and entertainment complex,
while SOM is busy conjuring the even higher Cultural Plaza Tower, a 521-metre glass spear that will soar
above a new riverfront world of shopping malls and theatres. It has the glitz and gloss of any other Chinese
city’s new central business district, but as Knight Frank’s David Ji points out: “It will be hard for a city like
Guiyang to find quality tenants to fill the space.”

Zhuhai Tower
Architecture practice RMJM's Shenzhen office just won a design competition for a new
observation tower in the southern Chinese city of Zhuhai. Inspired by Doumen district's
traditional water culture, the architects designed the skyscraper in the image of a jumping
fish by covering the twisting structure in a scaly facade. The iconic tower will serve as a
major city landmark and will be prominently located at the confluence of two major rivers
in the center of the city's new promenade development.

Twin Towers Guiyang, East Tower
Nowhere in China is the disparity between economic reality and architectural ambition more stark than
in Guiyang, capital of rural Guizhou, the poorest province in the country, which has the fifth most
skyscraper plans of any Chinese city. The twin 335-metre towers of the Huaguoyuan development, by
Arup, are now almost complete, standing as the centrepiece of a new mixed-use office, retail and
entertainment complex, while SOM is busy conjuring the even higher Cultural Plaza Tower, a 521-
metre glass spear that will soar above a new riverfront world of shopping malls and theatres. It has the
glitz and gloss of any other Chinese city’s new central business district, but as Knight Frank’s David
Ji points out: “It will be hard for a city like Guiyang to find quality tenants to fill the space.”
Wilshire Grand Center
The Wilshire Grand Center—which opens to the public today—narrowly eclipses the U.S. Bank Tower as the tallest skyscraper in Los Angeles. But what might stand out to
Angelenos more than the height is the tower’s ornamental top.
It is the first Downtown high-rise to be built since Los Angeles City Hall in 1928 that will not have a flat roof. Instead, at its apex, is a glass “crown” and light-up spire that
rises above the 73rd floor. It’s because of that unique, decorative roofline that Los Angeles is home to the tallest skyscraper west of Chicago.
The crown is often described as looking like a sail, but the shape of its curve was actually inspired by Half Dome, a massive granite formation in Yosemite Valley.
Los Angeles boasts world-famous landmarks, the Hollywood Sign and the Santa Monica Pier, for instance, but it has never really been known for its skyline. If other
architects take advantage of the city’s 2014 decision to allow spires, slanted roofs, and other innovative shapes, that might not be the case forever.
The Wilshire Grand holds restaurants, stores, offices and a hotel, and, in honor of its opening, here are five fun things to know about the glassy giant.

Salesforce Tower, formerly known as the Transbay Tower, is a 1,070-foot (326 m) office skyscraper in the South of
Market district of downtown San Francisco. It is located at 415 Mission Street between First and Fremont Streets, next
to the Transbay Transit Center site. Salesforce Tower is the centerpiece of the San Francisco Transbay

Upon its completion in 2018 it became the tallest skyscraper in the San Francisco skyline, with a top roof height of
970 feet (296 m) and overall height of 1,070 feet (326 m), surpassing the 853 feet (260 m) Transamerica Pyramid. It is
also the second-tallest building west of the Mississippi River after the 1,100 feet (335 m) Wilshire Grand Center in Los
Angeles, though the Salesforce Tower is taller when Wilshire Grand Center's decorative spire is excluded,[11][12] but
has a shorter roofline than Los Angeles' U.S. Bank Tower.
