N10-006 vs N10-007
Instructor’s Perspective
N10-006 vs N10-007 Comparison
 Changes
– Focus on IP Addressing Components as opposed to switches, gateways and
routers
– In N10-006, firewalls were configured; in the N10-007 exam, individuals are
expected to place firewalls, rather than engage in configuration
– Both exams cover vulnerabilities and threats; however, the new exam
focuses on those readily understandable to a newer engineer
– Network hardening is still addressed in the N10-007 exam, but with less
detail
– Security troubleshooting not as detailed in the N10-007 exam
– While protocols such as TACACS are still found in the N10-007, they are not
covered at detailed a level

SESSION ONE
Switching
1.0 Networking Concepts
Explain the concepts and characteristics of routing and switching
Switching
 MAC address learning – they learn by source mac address. The sending computer will send a frame to a
computer, the switch is going to receive it and look at its table, if it is not there it will send a blast. The
responder will send back a response with the source address, the switch will save the source address

 Forwarding – If the switch sends a broadcast and no response, it will forward to the gateway which is the
router. The router will send the data based on its routing table

 VLANs – create vlan within a switch

 Native VLAN – 1 to any you want, it is best practice to change the native vlan other than vlan 1

 Multilayer
