Adjectives

An adjective is a word that is used to modify noun or

pronoun.
Example: I live on a peaceful community.
He writes meaningless letters.

The word peaceful and meaningless are used as

adjective in the sentence while the word community and
letters are the noun that describe.
Proper Adjectives

They come from proper nouns. They begins with a capital

letter.

Example: Filipino values are extraordinary.

I love Italian food.

The word Filipino and Italian are used as proper adjectives

while the word extraordinary and food are the noun that
describe.
Derived adjectives

They are formed by adding an adjective-forming suffix to a

root word.

Example: Anna is a thoughtful friend.

She wore a beautiful dress.

The word thoughtful and beautiful is used as derived

adjectives while the word friend and dress are the noun that
describe.
Compound Adjectives

They are formed by joining a two or more different words

to have a new meaning.

Example: He is well-mannered person.

Danny’s dog is well-behaved.

The word well-mannered and well-behaved are used as

compound adjectives while person and dog are noun that
describe.
Predicate Adjectives

When an adjectives comes after a linking verb and

describing the subject.

Example: Her performance was truly remarkable.

All the kittens are asleep.

The word remarkable and asleep are used by predicate

adjective while the word performance and kittens are the
noun that describe and the linking verb is was.
