COMPUTER HARDWARE

– Computer Hardware is the collection of physical parts of a

computer system.
– This includes the computer case, monitor, keyboard and mouse.
It also includes all the parts inside the computer case, such as
the hard disk drive, motherboard, video card, and many others.
– In other words, computer hardware is what you can physically
touch.

PROCESSING
System Unit
It is the main part of a desktop computer
because it controls the whole of your
computer. It includes the motherboard,
CPU, RAM and other components. The
system unit also includes the case that
houses the internal components of the
computer.
CPU (Central Processing Unit)

-It is also called the central processor or main

processor.
-It is a piece of hardware that carries out
instructions of a computer program. It performs
the basic arithmetic, logic, controlling and
input/output operations specified by the
instructions.
-It is the brain of the computer where most
calculations takes place.
RAM (Random Access Memory)

– It is the physical hardware inside the

computer that temporarily stores data,
serving as the computer’s working
memory.
– It is a form of fast-access, volatile storage
that is used as the main memory in
computer systems.
Motherboard

– The motherboard is a printed circuit board

and foundation of a computer that is the
biggest board in a computer chassis.
– It allocates power and allows communication
to the CPU, RAM, and all other computer
hardware components.
– It acts as the “hub” to which other computer
devices connect.

INPUT-OUTPUT DEVICES

Monitor

- The monitor is the piece of computer

hardware that displays the video and graphics
information generated by the computer through
the video card.
- Monitors are very similar to televisions but
usually display information at a much higher
resolution.
Keyboard

– The keyboard is the piece

of computer hardware used
to input text, characters,
and other commands into
a computer or similar
device.

Mouse

– A computer mouse is a hand-held

pointing device that detects two-
dimensional motion relative to a surface.
– Moving a mouse along a flat surface can
move the cursor to different items on the
screen. Items can be moved or selected
by pressing the mouse buttons (called
clicking).
Speaker

– A computer speaker is an output hardware

device that connects to a computer to
generate sound. The signal used to produce
the sound that comes from a computer
speaker is created by the computer's sound
card.
Headphone

– Sometimes referred to
as earphones, headphones are
a hardware output device that either
plug into your computer line out or
your speakers to privately listen to
audio without disturbing others.
Printer

– A printer is an external hardware output

device that takes the electronic data
stored on a computer or other device
and generates a hard copy of it.
– Printers are one of the most
popular computer peripherals and are
commonly used to print text and
photos.
Scanner

– A scanner is a device that captures

images from photographic prints,
posters, magazine pages, and similar
sources for computer editing and
display. Scanners come in hand-
held, feed-in, and flatbed types and
for scanning black-and-white only,
or color.
Web Camera

– A webcam is a hardware camera and input device

that connects to a computer and the Internet and
captures either still pictures or motion video of a
user or another object.
– Webcams are typically small cameras that sit on a
desk, attach to a user's monitor, or are built into
the hardware.
AVR

– It is a hardware device or
program that used to maintain
a voltage to electronic devices,
and power line conditioning to
the equipment load under a
wide variety of conditions.
Sound Card

– It is an expansion card or IC for producing sound

on a computer that can be heard through speakers
or headphones.
– In order to be able to listen to your music, a sound
card converts digital data to analog sound waves
you can hear. The output signal is then connected
to a headphone or set of speakers.
– You can also use sound card to record audio with a
microphone.
Video Card

– It is a piece of computer hardware that’s

rectangular in shape with numerous
contacts on the bottom of the card and one
or more ports on the side for connection to
video displays and other devices.
– It connects to the motherboard of a
computer system and generates output
images to display.
STORAGE

Floppy Disk
– It is a magnetic storage medium for
computer systems.
– It is composed of a thin, flexible magnetic
disk sealed in a square plastic carrier.
– In order to read a write data from a
floppy disk a computer system must have
a floppy disk drive.
Hard Disk Drive

– Also known as hard drive

– It is a non-volatile computer storage device
containing magnetic disks or platters rotating
at high speeds.
– It is a secondary storage device used to store
data permanently.
Flash Drive

– It is a device used for data storage

that includes a flash memory and
an integrated Universal Serial Bus
(USB) interface.
– Most USB flash drive are
removable and rewritable.
CD/DVD Drive

– It is an optical disc drive

that reads and writes all
common CD and DVD
formats. All modern
optical drives that come
with personal
computers are CD/DVD
drives.
