Mother: Lisa, have you done your homework?
Lisa: I have, Mom. I did it before I watched TV program. But
there’s a question I haven’t answered.
Mother: What is that?
Lisa: Is the earth a perfect sphere?
Jisoo: No, it’s not. It’s oblate spheroid. We took it up in Araling
Panlipunan.
Lisa: Ok. I’ll take your words. I know you very well. You read a lot.
Jisoo: By the way, did anyone see my Araling Panlipunan book?
Mother: I saw it this morning. I put it in your cabinet.
Answer the following questions:

1. Who had homework about the shape of


the earth?
2. What was Jisoo’s answer to that question?
3. Draw on the board what an oblate
spheroid looks like.
Take note of the following questions used in the
dialogue.

Study how these questions can be changed to indirect
ones.
Generalization
In changing direct question to indirect discourse use the following patterns:
A. For a direct discourse with a second person

Quoted Tag + second person + if + Subject + Verb


( following the tense of the in the quoted tag)

B. For direct question expressing general truth


Quoted Tag + if + Subject + Verb ( no change in the tense)

C. For direct question not expressing general truth


Quoted Tag+ if + Subject + Verb( following the tense in the
quoted tag)
 Period(.) is used to end each
indirect discourse.

 Thereare also changes made in the


pronouns used.

by filling in the blanks with the missing
words.

Rewrite the short story by changing direct question to indirect
discourse
One full moon , a mother and her child were sitting by the window,
staring at the sky.
“ Mother, is it true there is a man in the moon?” asked the child.
The mother replied,”No, it isn’t true. No one can ever live in the
moon.”
The child asked her mother again,”Has anyone been there?”
“Yes”, answered the mother, “astronauts travel to the moon.”
“I wish I were an astronaut”, the child whispered.
