1 GREEN TECHNOLOGY

2 W HAT IS GREEN TECHNOLOGY

 It is a technology which
is environmentally
friendly, developed and
used in such a way so that
it doesn’t disturb our
environment and
conserves natural
resources.

 It is also known as
environmental technology
and clean technology
3 W HAT IS GREEN TECHNOLOGY

“Green Technology” is a system that uses

innovative methods to create an environmental
friendly products

It uses renewable natural resources that

never depletes, so future generation can also
benefit from it.

It can effectively change waste pattern and

production in a way that it won’t harm the
planet.

5. RESPONSIBILITY

 Don’t waste electricity –

Switch off electricalequipment
when not required.

 Don’t waste water – Never

leave taps open whilebrushing
or washing dishes.

 Don’t waste fuel

 Don’t waste food – Don’t cook

extra food and throw, always
keep in mind that there are
million in the world starving
without food 24/11/201

12 1. GREEN CHEMISTRY

 The term green chemistry

was coined by Paul Anastas in
1991

 Green chemistry, also called

sustainable chemistry.

 The invention, design and

application of chemical
products and processes to
reduce or to eliminate the use
of hazardous substances.
24/11/2014
13 2. GREEN ENERGY

 Green energy comes

from natural sources
such as sunlight, wind,
rain, tides, plants, algae
and geothermal heat.
 These energy resources
are renewable.
14
2. GREEN ENERGY
T YPES OF G REEN E NERGY

 Solar power

 Wind power

 Water power

 Geothermal energy

 Biofuel

 Biogas
15 3. GREEN INFORMATION
TECHNOLOGY

 Also called green computing it

describes the study and the
using of computer resources
in an efficient way.
 Green IT starts with
manufacturers producing
environmentally friendly
products and encouraging IT
departments to consider more
friendly options like
virtualization, power
management and proper
recycling habits.
16 3. GREEN BUILDING

 Green building is the

practice of increasing
the efficiency of
buildings and their use
of energy, water and
materials and reducing
building impacts on
human health and
environment through
better design,
construction, operation,
and maintenance.

17 3. GREEN BUILDING

 BAHRAIN WORLD TRADE

CENTRE, MANAMA

 It is the first skyscraper in the

world to integrate wind
turbines into its design.

 The turbines supply about 15

percent of the electricity used
by the skyscraper
approximately the same amount
of electricity used by 300
homes.
3. GREEN BUILDING
17

 S KYSCRAPER FARMING

 A futuristic concept converts skyscrapers into crop

farms that could help reduce global warming,
improve the urban environment, and help feed the
world’s growing population.

 How it would work

 SOLAR PANEL- Energy is supplied by a rotating

solar panel that follows the sun; drives interior
heating/cooling system.

 GLASS PANEL- Clear coating of titanium oxide

collects pollutants and makes rain slides down the
glass where it is collected and used for watering.
18 3. GREEN BUILDING

 ARCHITECTURE- Circular
design allows maximum light
into centre.

 ECONOMY- The plan

combines farming with
office and residential
stories.

 IRRIGATION- Filtered,
sterilized wastewater from
sewage system can be used
for irrigation.
19 4. GREEN NANO TECHNOLOGY

Green nanotechnology
refers to the use of
nanotechnology to
enhance the
environmental
sustainability of
processes producing
negative externalities. It
also refers to the use of
the products of
nanotechnology to
enhance sustainability.
20 4. GREEN NANO TECHNOLOGY

 Ex: One major project that is

being worked on is the
development of nanotechnology
in solar cells. Solar cells are
more efficient as they get
tinier and Nanotechnology is
already used to provide
improved performance coatings
for photovoltaic (PV) and solar
thermal panels.

 PV covered with nanotechnology

coatings are said to stay cleaner
for longer to ensure maximum
energy efficiency is maintained.
21 5. GREEN PURCHASING

 Product

 Green product attributes such as energy

savings, organic clothing, low volatile organic
compounds, green chemicals etc.

 Greener selection and use of resources results

in savings from less waste, less chemicals and
less processing.

 Wal-Mart has made tremendous strides in

greening their transportation, energy usage,
facility design and adoption of some greener
products such as organic clothing.
