CHARACTERISTICS
CRASH DATA ANALYSIS AND FINDINGS
๏ The average crash rate for this segment of Biscayne Boulevard (US-1)
during the five-year period was nearly 16 crashes more per million
vehicle miles. This is more than three times the average rate for this
same facility type in Miami-Dade County.

๏ More than 60% of the crashes (445) were rear end or Crash Types, Year 2011-2015
sideswipe, which is typical given numerous signalized Other

intersections and multiple lanes in the corridor. 2% 25%

CORRIDOR
CHARACTERISTICS
๏ Total of 21 pedestrian crashes and six bicycle
PEDESTRIAN AND BICYCLE CRASHES
crashes in the corridor during the five-year period
between 2011-2015.
๏ One fatal pedestrian crash in the northbound
direction at NE 4th Street and Biscayne Boulevard.
The vehicle had green light was reportedly speeding.
๏ Approximately 57% of the crashes with pedestrians
occurred when it was dark outside, including the
one fatality. Two crashes with pedestrians
occurred at dawn while one of the crashes with
cyclists occurred at dusk.
๏ The most common cause for pedestrian crashes is
crossing at locations where there are no
crosswalks or pedestrian signals.
