Theorists
The Blake Mouton Managerial Grid is
based on two behavioral dimensions:

 Concern for People: The degree to which a


leader considers team members' needs,
interests and areas of personal development
when deciding how best to accomplish a task.
 Concern for Results: The degree to which a
leader emphasizes concrete objectives,
organizational efficiency and high productivity
when deciding how best to accomplish a task.

Impoverished Management
(Low Results/Low People)

This type of Leaders have:


 Low concern for production.
 Low concern for people.
 With little interest in creating a motivating
team environment.
 Doing only enough to do Keep Job.
 Results are disorganized and dissatisfactory
Produce-or-Perish Management
High Results/Low People
(9,1)
 Also known as "authoritarian" or
"authority-compliance" managers.
This type of Leaders have:
• Strict work rules, policies and procedures.
• Can view punishment as an effective way of
motivating team members.
• Low concern for people.
• High Concern for production.
• This approach can drive impressive production
results at first but low team motivation will
ultimately affect people’s productivity.
Middle-of-the-Road Management
Medium Results/Medium People

This type of Leaders have:


 Moderate concern for people and
production.
 Fails to inspire high performance.
 Fails to meet people's needs fully.
 Result is that his team will likely deliver only
mediocre performance.
Country Club Management
High People/Low Results

This type of Leaders have:


 Places high emphasis on feelings and
emotions on Employees.
 Assumes that, as long as they are happy and
secure, they will work hard.
 The result in a work environment that is very
relaxed and fun, but where productivity
suffers because there is a lack of direction
and control.
Team Management
High Production/High People
(9,9)
 According to the Blake Mouton model, Team
management is the most effective leadership
style.
 It reflects a leader who is passionate about his
work and does the best he can for the people he
works with.
 Prioritize both the organization's production
needs and their people's needs.
 By making sure that their team members
understand the organization's purpose by
involving them in determining production
needs.
 When people are committed to the
organization's success, their needs and
production needs coincide.
 This creates an environment based on trust
and respect, which leads to high satisfaction,
motivation and excellent results.
