science
Introduction to the class

Teacher Marvin Carreño

End in the mind

To Understand the Class parameters.

Laboratory rules.
What will we see in the course?

. States of matter
-Properties of liquids, solids and gases (surface tension)
-Kinetic theory of matter
-Change of state graphs
-Physical and chemical changes
-Properties of matter
-Mass, volume, density and temperature
-Conversions of temperature
-Laboratory techniques
-Identification of laboratory equipment.
-Uncertainty and error in measurement
-Graphs in the laboratory
Dates to take into account

Week IV (September 10 -14).

The students will do an experiment with a proper

plan previously handed on the last week showing a
physical and a chemical change.
Important dates to remember

Week X (October 29 - November 2)

Delivery of your own measurement machine

(sumative activity).
Measurement Machine

The aim of this activity is to create a measurement

machine with a proper scale and unit of
measurement.

The advancement handing, will be done on the

Week VII where you have to have the sketch of
the machine and the descriptive plan for the
building of it on the Week IX.
Matter

What is the Matter?

What is it Made of?

Why do we study the matter?

What is the Matter?

Matter: “material substance that constitutes the

observable universe and, together with energy, forms the
basis of all objective phenomena”.

- To understand the Phase change diagrams at

variable pressures and to apply conversion
factors to exchange between different units.
What is pressure?

Is force applied perpendicular to an area, gases

and liquids are common sources of force.
