Choosing of Suspension
• Choosing Criteria:- We surveyed over the market and gathered the data about the
following suspensions:-
1. Double wishbone System:- It connects the wheel with the chassis by using either A-
Arm or V- Arm Geometry. There are two kinds of wishbones used ; Upper and Lower
wishbones to provide the support to the chassis and they are fixed to the main frame
or the sub-frame of the vehicle and a damper is placed between two wishbones to
control the vertical motion. Both the wheels are independent.
The Independency provides following advantages:-
• Reduces Understeer effect
• Provide good contact with roads
• Reduces caster angle deflection since prevent rotation along kingpin axis
• Provides good comfort for the passenger
• Helps in better steering control on Uneven roads
Choosing continued
2. Rubber System: Cracks out, becomes hard after long use, energy
transfer reduces, which reduces the shock absorbing capacity.

So we found the wishbone system more efficient.

Our Design
• As per our design we will use a Double wishbone system (A-Arm
Geometry) in the front suspension and Trailing Arms in the rear
Suspension.
• In our design the length of the Upper wishbone will be slightly less
than that of the lower wishbone in front and rear suspension system.
Suspension Advantages Disadvantages
Macpherson-Strut Uses single wishbone and a Ride Height is high; SUSPENSION
damper; independent Causes rise in the C.G. of
suspension system the vehicle
Double Wishbone Provides good contact with Occupies more boot space;
road surface; Reduces
caster angle deflection;
Low ride height
Trailing Arm Simple and Light weight Requires a wide space,
camber loss.
